Mondo Cane

LP (Item 56703) United Artists, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good

One of the biggest-selling United Artists albums of the 60s – and one of its first big successes in the European soundtrack market! The score is for a strange documentary like film (the title means "World Gone To The Dogs"), and most of the tunes are dramatic – with a sweeping orchestral feel that has a few light instrumental moments. The big fame of this one is that it contains the theme that went onto become the 60s vocal standard "More" – but in this version, it's kind of submerged, and taken at a much slower pace. Titles include "Free Way", "Models In Blue", "Life Savers Girls", "The Last Flight", "Dog Heat", "Cargo Cult", and "Pergatory".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Great stuff! This is the "alternate" version of Michel Legrand's great score to Les Demoiselles De Rochefort – and it's totally great all the way through! The whole thing's nice and jazzy, totally swinging, and has a groove that you don't get in some of Legrand's other work. We've ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, Mid 60s. Sealed
A playful little soundtrack for this offbeat Patty Duke film – handled by Dominic Frontiere in ways that are sometimes sentimental and respectful, and sometimes seem to be poking a bit of fun at the subject matter! Hang 'Em High
United Artists, 1968. Sealed
One of the more famous western soundtracks of the late 60s – a set with a great theme that's well known by many – blended here with some other great spaghetti western elements and a bit more Hollywood drama! Burn!
United Artists, 1970. Near Mint-
A pretty nice Morricone score for this period piece that starred Marlon Brando, and was set in the Carribean during the early 19th century. The style of the work is similar to later Morricone scores with a more spiritual bent – like his superb score for The Mission – and it's got a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hard to tell if these are new versions of songs, or simply ones lifted from Barry's UA soundtracks – but from the notes and the music, the album seems to be a unique one. This is sort of a compilation that features Michel Legrand's great scores for the films Thomas Crown Affair, Young Girls of Rochefort, La Piscine, and Play Dirty. Nashville Rebel
RCA, 1966. Very Good
A pretty nice soundtrack from the mid 60s – featuring a mixture of vocal and instrumental tunes, sung by Waylon Jennings, who also stars in the film, and arranged by Chet Atkins, who's also producing the album.
