Texas Flood

LP (Item 566952) Epic, 1983 — Condition: Very Good
The debut album from Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a set that firmly helped redirect blues music in the 80s – maybe getting things a bit back on track, after so many influences from rock during the previous decade – even though it could also be said that the set was put together perfectly for the rock audience as well! It's almost as if Stevie Ray takes back all those things that were borrowed from the blues by UK acts at the end of the 60s and transformed into more strutting classic rock styles – recaptured here by Vaughan as he focuses on the core guitar work that makes him so famous, and delivers vocals that are soulful, but never in a way that's too full of rockish bravado. The approach works perfectly, and continues to make the album a classic over the years – on titles that include "Rude Mood", "Lenny", "Tell Me", "Testify", "Love Struck Baby", "Pride & Joy", "Texas Flood", and "Dirty Pool".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

BB King at his late 60s best – working here in the company of producers Johnny Pate and Quincy Jones, and serving up a great blend of blues and soul in the process! We love our Buddy Guy here in Chicago – and this set cut for Vanguard, one of his first full solo albums with his own band will always be a favorite! Probably THE album you truly need to own from Koko Taylor – and a completely great one, recorded way before she'd become a cliched fixture paying the bills on the frat boy tourist blues scene! A pretty nice little 2LP set – put together in the early 70s, and featuring material that Walter recorded for Chess during the 60s. One of our favorite records of all time! We've got to admit, this one's an acquired taste, but if you dig cool LA studio pop from the early 70's, this record's a real treasure!
