Loose blues from Bill Evans – an unreleased session that features some great tenor sax from Zoot Sims! Bill mostly recorded with a trio, so a date like this is always a treat – especially given that the setting is so relaxed, and open – which makes for some especially inventive modes, in ways that almost recall the variety of unusual sessions that Evans played on as a sideman during the late 50s! Jim Hall is also in the group on guitar – hitting sharp tones with that great sense of timing he brought to his work at this point – and other players include Ron Carter on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, both of whom help things swing in a nicely offbeat way.
