Spotlight On The Moog – Kaleidoscopic Vibrations

LP (Item 5645) Vanguard, 1967 — Condition: Very Good
$14.99 ...

LP, Vinyl record album

(€12.70 || £11.36 || ¥1695) (approx.)

One of the legendary Perry & Kingsley moog records, with all of their early experiments with the instrument, and all of the weird tape cut-ups and production effects, over some versions of cool sixties pop stuff, and a host of original tracks. Titles include "Pioneers Of The Stars", "Fallout", "One Note Samba", "Umbrellas of Cherbourg", "The Savers", and "Toy Balloons". Also with a nice version of "Mas Que Nada"! (70s UK pressing. Vinyl plays with a click on side 1, tracks 4-7.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dawn Of Dylan
GWP, Early 70s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Hugo Montenegro runs through a set of Dylan compositions with very baroque orchestrations. Recorded slightly before he was doing his moogy work, this one has Montenegro leading a vocal chorus that has a We Five sort of late 60's pop feel. The arrangements are very groovy and jangly, and the track ... LP, Vinyl record album
Electric Hair
Evolution, Late 60s. Very Good
One of the best versions of the Hair soundtrack you'll find on moog! Robert Byrne's cut some fine albums in his time, but on this little gem, he really grooves it hard with Galt MacDermot's funky score – using all the cool changes in the songs to riff out some great work on the moog. There's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Paul Mauriat Plays The Beatles (Joue Les Beatles) is exactly what you'd guess – sweet instrumental readings of tunes by the team of Lennon & McCartney (plus one by George Harrison, too) – served up in that sublime sonic space that was Paul's own! Tower, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Excellent work from Laurindo – a truly wonderful album, played with small combo backing, which gives the set a jazzier feel than usual! Wild Stereo Drums
Capitol, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Compilation of Capitol artists doing material designed to show off rhythmic stereo patterns. Les Baxter does a couple exotica things, and Dick Harrell delivers two cool rockin' drum tracks. Swingin' Fling
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
Alvino Rey's swinging "wow-wow" guitar sounds a lot like Esquivel's use of pedal steel, and this album's a great bunch of work in that vein, with swinging strident arrangements that mix the guitar and baritone sax solos. Great hip bachelor pad ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
The notes say that the album is "the rare plum of authenticity". We don't know if we'd go that far, but we can tell you that the record features Yma performing songs of the legendary Jivaro headhunters! Supposedly, Yma learned them in her "South American jungle-home", but we ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1967. Very Good+
Claus Ogerman may hail from Germany, but he's got a heck of a way with a New York Latin groove! The album's a great blend of styles all handled perfectly – a mode that mixes Latin soul with some of the groovier arrangements that were showing up on records at Verve during the same period. ...
