The Horn Meets The Hornet

LP (Item 5643) RCA, 1966 — Condition: Sealed

Probably Al Hirt's best, which is evident even at the first glance of the cover – which shows Al standing next to the Green Hornet, who's holding this crazy cane with the Hornet logo. Features, natch, "The Green Hornet Theme", plus other goodies like "T.H.E. Cat", "Get Smart", "The Monkees", and "Batman Theme". Very groovy – and with arrangements by Billy May and Dick Hyman, how can you miss?  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing. Shrinkwrap has a hole in front. Cover has a cut corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Voices of Walter Schumann

Exploring the Unknown
RCA, 1955. Very Good
One of the postwar space-age classics! The normally-sleepy chorus of Walter Schumann is used to create the backdrop for a narrative of space flight – read by Paul Frees, and involving the takeoff of a rocket from the Pacific, soaring into space, past the moon, and arriving on Venus. Marty Gold

Skin Tight
RCA, 1960. Near Mint-
Pretty skin tight stuff – as Marty and crew play more bongos than you'd ever hear in a beatnik hoedown! The set's a very percussive one, and is one of Gold's better outings on RCA – thanks to the tightly stretched skins of the bongo. Gold arranged all tunes, and some of them are bongo- ... Music For Bachelors
RCA, 1956. Very Good
A classic album of 50s mood music – partially for its famous cover image of Jayne Mansfield on the telephone! But the music's pretty great too – less of the swinging, dynamic sounds you might guess from the "bachelor" in the title – and more in the mellower, romantic ... LP, Vinyl record album

A pre-exotica relic – cut just a year or two before bachelor pad music really broke big, and a very important album in helping get the whole thing started! This is a pretty nifty package that covers the music of Paris nightlife from the 1890s to the 1950s. The album cover is a nice half-gatefold sleeve featuring, of course, some follies ladies. The tunes are grouped into 12 medleys and feature a lot of songs including "Paris, Je T'Aime D'Amour&q ... LP, Vinyl record album

Flying Machine
Janus, Late 60s. Sealed
Groovy little pop rock tracks, with a good small combo sound, and a tight little arrangements with a larger ensemble. The group has a good late 60's pop harmony style, with the lead singer out front, and the other singers in the back – in the style of a band like We Five or something like ...
