Nilsson Sings Newman

LP (Item 564281) RCA, 1970 — Condition: Near Mint-
The pairing of the early genius of Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman – one of the most sublime albums of the early 70s! Nilsson Sings Newman, written by a then fairly unknown Randy Newman was certainly an odd project to undertake for an artist generally regarded as a songwriting talent, but boy is the world better because of it! The whole album is a delicate masterpiece, utilizing Nilsson's great voice to its best-ever effect, and completely disregarding the sometimes self-indulgent trappings of his own writing in favor of Newman's more earnest, and endearingly cynical New Orleans bred pop. Beautiful! Tracks include "Vine St." (also recorded by Van Dyke Parks), "Love Story", "Yellow Man", "Caroline", Cowboy", "Living Without You" and "Dayton Ohio, 1903".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Young Americans
RCA, 1975. Very Good+
A brilliant soul album! That's right, we said SOUL album! Pinups
RCA, 1973. Very Good+
A key blend of two chapters in David Bowie's career – his guitar-heavy groove with the Spiders From Mars, and his 60s roots in mod London! The tracks here all date from the mid 60s, and are Bowie's homage to that period in his life – but they're all played with a glammish 70s ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the oddest of the 70s concept albums by The Kinks – a set of tracks that takes Ray Davies and the band back to the school days of their youth – where they revisit frustrations, anger, and the disgrace in the title! A classic of Canadian rock – and a set that broke big on this side of the border too! Classic work by Jose in the style he forged in LA at the end of the 60s – a mix of 60s pop and soul with that wonderful Latin style he used, the one that made his vocals and guitar cry slightly with the rhythms, taking conventional and familiar songs, and opening them up in a whole new way, ... RCA, 1969. Very Good
A groovy record from Jose – with his best kind of crossover feel! It's an unusual title – one that refers to the first track on the record, recorded by Jose Feliciano at age 10 – and the rest of the material included, done when Jose was 23 years old.
