Raydio/Rock On

CD (Item 563931) Arista/Edsel (UK), 1978/1980 — Condition: Used
$13.99 ...

CD

The first 2 albums from Ray Parker's Raydio – in a great single CD set! The self-titled Raydio appeared in 1978– after Parker had honed is craft in countless session gigs, which gave him more than enough chops to get things right from the start! The sound is tight and definitely aimed at the charts, by Ray also brings his own sort of groove to the set too – kind of a mainstream funk approach that found a very big audience at the time! As the years pass, this one sounds better and better to our ears – with titles that include "Jack & Jill", "Let's Go All The Way", "Is This A Love Thing", "Honey I'm Rich", "You Need This (To Satisfy That)", "Betcha Can't Love Me Just Once", "Me", and "Get Down". Not much rock happening on the follow up Rock On – but a definite guitar-driven groove – that Ray Parker vamp really sparkling here in the frontline! The bass is pretty strong too, with that mainstream funk sound that was popping strongly from the west coast at the end of the 70s – a nice match for the guitar, and never as overdone as some of the other work of this nature. Tunes are all pretty darn catchy – more than enough to crossover, but without losing their cool – and titles include the megahit "You Can't Change That", plus "Rock On", "More Than One Way To Love A Woman", "What You Waitin For", "Honey I'm A Star", and "When You're In Need Of Love".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.
