Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders

LP (Item 563408) Elektra, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good+
The Holy Modal Rounders in all of their glory – weirder and even more hard to define than ever before – but maybe a bit more focused and tuneful than during the time that founders Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber spent in the Fugs! The group here also includes the young Sam Shepard – which maybe gives a slightly more theatrical bent to the album – almost this offbeat songcycle from the darkest corners of America, circa 1968 – in a mode that's sometimes more comfortable looking at the past through a psychedelic kaleidoscopic mirror, rather than face forward towards the future. Titles include "Dame Fortune", "Bird Song", "One Will Do For Now", "The Pledge", "Half A Mind", "My Mind Capsized", and "The Duji Song".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Gold label stereo pressing. Includes the Elektra inner sleeve. Cover has light wear and lightly bent corners.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Queen
Elektra, 1973. Very Good
The start of a legendary run of records from Queen – a set that's maybe not as archetypically the group's work as mid 70s albums to come – but which is still a hell of a way to put themselves out for the rest of the world to hear! Hills Of Indiana
Elektra, 1971. Near Mint-
We don't normally think of Indiana in such poetic terms – but leave it to Lonnie Mack to find the hidden beauty in roughness – a quality that seems to emerge more and more in his music as the 70s moved on! Candy-O
Elektra, 1979. Near Mint-
Not The Cars' first album, but the one that definitely catapulted them from Boston underground to mainstream fame – quite a surprise, given the style that most of the bigger acts were laying down at the time!
