Blues Volume 5

LP (Item 563012) Chess, 1950s/1960s — Condition: Near Mint-
Features work by Willie Mabon, Lowell Fulson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Memphis Minnie, Little Walter, Eddie Boyd, Percy Mayfield, Jimmy Nelson, Jimmy Rogers, Muddy Waters, and John Lee Hooker!  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original Chess Masters pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

At Newport 1960
Chess, 1960. Sealed

Door To Door
Chess, 1950s/Early 60s. Very Good+
A split album of early recordings by Otis Rush and Albert King – both featured here in early Chicago sides done for Chess Records in the years before their bigger late 60s fame! London Sessions
Chess, 1970. Near Mint-

Two Great Guitars
Chess, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry come together in a really unique album for Chess Records in the 60s – and that's saying a lot, given all the groundbreaking sounds we heard from that label at the time! Completely Well
Bluesway, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
BB King soars into the 70s with this smoking little set – a record that still holds onto all the raw energy of his best 60s recordings, but which also gives the whole thing an even more soulful focus too! Best Of Percy Mayfield
Specialty, 1950s. Near Mint-
A nice collection of Percy's classic work for Specialty Records from the 50s – issued here in a full LP package from 1970, when Percy was enjoying a bit of a revival. Albert Collins

Trash Talkin
Imperial, 1969. Very Good+
Fantastic early work from Albert Collins – almost as much of a funk album as a blues one! This set's not really funky in the same sense as many of Collins' contemporaries in the soul scene of the time – but it's got some great funky elements, especially in the drums and guitar, which ... Funky Town
Bluesway/ABC, Late 60s. Very Good+
