White Witch

LP (Item 562879) Buddah, 1977 — Condition: Very Good+
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

❔

The white witch Andrea True weaves her magic spell nicely here – using her sexy style to great effect amidst backings from a tight core combo! The work's got that Euro disco approach that was growing in the 70s mainstream at the time – although some cuts are handled with even more soulful styles by Gregg Diamond and Michael Zager – whose presence on the set is appreciated! Titles include "What's Your Name What's Your Number", "You Make Love Worthwhile", "Life Is What You Make It", "It's All Up To You", "Sally Can't Dance", "NY You Got Me Dancing", and "White Witch".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cut corner, promo & hype stickers, and a piece of tape on the spine. Label has a small sticker.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Michael Henderson

Solid
Buddah, 1976. Near Mint-
The very first album from Michael Henderson – but a set that already finds him very much at the top of his game – thanks to previous work with Miles Davis and Norman Connors! Both artists gave Henderson a chance to do different things with his music, and by the time of this record, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Melba Moore

Melba (Buddah)
Buddah, 1976. Sealed
Soaring soul from Melba Moore – a singer who really came into her own with this sweet 70s album! Melba always had a great voice, right from the start – but here, she's working with arrangements and production by Van McCoy – updating her sound with a bit of a clubby groove, in a ... Michael Henderson

Slingshot
Buddah, 1981. Very Good
Much as we like Michael Henderson, we almost want to hate him for the cover of this one – which features him in a skin-tight Speedo – but the record is just too damn good! The music is fantastic – and is sort of an update of the earlier east coast smooth soul sound, with lots of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Buddah, Mid 70s. Near Mint-
Fantastic early work by Van McCoy – recorded in the years before his "Hustle" hit, with a sweet east coast groove that's very much in the spirit of the best work he was doing for other folks at the time! The tracks have a warm and bubbling feel that's really great – sublime ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bobby Wilson

I'll Be Your Rainbow
Buddah, 1975. Very Good-
One of the landmark albums of 70s mellow soul! Bobby Wilson hasn't left behind much of a recorded legacy, but he did come up with this godlike album that should be in any collection of classic soul. The record is a perfect blending of the styles of soul that were running through the east coast ... LP, Vinyl record album

Modulations

It's Rough Out Here
Buddah, 1975. Near Mint-
A righteous group soul classic from the 70s – the one and only album from The Modulations, and a lasting classic that almost beats the multiple album runs of some of their contemporaries! The group's a southern harmony quartet at their core, but they also get some really great backings on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wilbert Harrison

Wilbert Harrison
Buddah, 1971. Very Good+
Wilbert's come a long way from Kansas City here – working with Marshall Sehorn on a set of southern-tinged arrangements, mostly of older R&B classics, done in a hipper crossover 70s mode that also has a bit of New Orleans funk! Allen Toussaint arranged the horns, which probably helps in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gladys Knight & The Pips

I Feel A Song
Buddah, 1974. Very Good+
Rock-solid Buddah work from Gladys Knight & The Pips – still pretty righteous on the vocal tip, but often a bit fuller and more polished than before! Knight shows a great talent for a mature ballad here – no big hits, but that's part of the charm of the set – as there's a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Norman Connors

Slewfoot
Buddah, 1974. Very Good
A really bold step forward for Norman Connors – a set that's still got all the spiritual jazz elements of his roots, but which also adds in some more soul and funk elements too! Jean Carn delivers some wonderful vocals on the record – at a level that's much more like her early Black ... LP, Vinyl record album
Buddah/Vee Jay, Early 60s. Near Mint-
One of a number of similarly titled compilations of tracks that features some of Jerry's finest (and famous) moments for the Vee Jay label. There's more than a few numbers here that have become pretty hard to find on vinyl, and the package doesn't appear to be all that special, the music is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Ayers

You Send Me
Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Sure, the date's a bit later than some of Roy's classic work, but the record's got a sound like no other – with a slow mellow jazzy style that shows Roy working at the height of his powers! There's some wonderful spacey production on the record ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isley Brothers

This Old Heart Of Mine
Tamla, 1966. Near Mint-
The Isley Brothers on Motown – a really key step forward for the group, who find a whole new level of soul with help from the Holland Dozier Holland team! There's a warmth here missing from previous Isleys material – that rough edge that was more part of their rocking years, softened a ... LP, Vinyl record album
