Bobby Timmons — Bobby Timmons Trio In Person ... LP 39.99

Bobby Timmons at the height of his powers – recorded live at the Village Vanguard, with a trio that includes Ron Carter on bass and Albert Heath on drums! The tracks are a bit longer than on some of Bobby's trio studio sides for Riverside – nicely swinging, with some killer piano work that reminds us, once again, that Timmons' young genius was far greater than the talent that most other players could hope for after the age of 30! Titles include "So Tired", "Goodbye", "Popsy", and "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise". CD features 2 bonus tracks – "They Didn't Believe Me" and "Dat Dare" in a full length version.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Bobby Timmons

Soul Time
Riverside/OJC, 1960. Used
A real standout set from Bobby Timmons – one of his few non-trio sessions as a leader, and a record that crackles with the same sort of energy he brought to his work with the Jazz Messengers! Of course, that's no surprise – as the quartet on the set includes Bobby's boss at the time, ... CD

Gene Ammons

Late Hour Special
Prestige/OJC, 1964. Used
Very nice album by Jug that often gets overlooked because it's comprised of 2 different sessions, and can't get the "historical" writeup of being a single significant moment in the studio. Some tracks – including "Lascivious" and "Soft Winds" – are with a ... CD

Paul Quinichette

For Basie
Prestige/OJC, 1957. Used
Basie tribute by Basie alum playing tunes from the Count's book, this hard swinging side exemplifies the earlier swing orientation of the Prestige label, before they moved into other realms of soul jazz, bop and avant garde. Long tracks, with strong solos. CD

George Wallington

Jazz For The Carriage Trade
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
Sublime work from pianist George Wallington – and one of his best albums ever! The set's also one of the few he ever recorded as a leader outside the trio format, and has him working with a very hip quintet that features Phil Woods, Donald Byrd, Teddy Kotick, and Art Taylor – all ... CD

Barney Kessel

Feeling Free
Contemporary/OJC, 1969. Used
Easily one of Barney Kessel's greatest records – done with a really surprising quartet lineup that includes Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Chuck Domanico on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums! The group's far hipper than Kessel, but that also really drives him to keep up with them – forging ... CD

Riverside/OJC, 1957. Used
Classic early work from Kenny Dorham as a leader – a brilliant set that sparkles with modern touches! The group's a quartet that pairs Kenny's trumpet with the alto sax of the late Ernie Henry – a perfect accompanist that brings out both the brightness in Kenny's horn, and the edgier ... CD
Blue Note, 1967. Used

A treasure trove of spiritual jazz from saxophonist Idris Ackamoor – featuring his famous 70s recordings with The Pyramids, solo material, and even some previously unissued titles! The bulk of the collection comes from The Pyramids' albums Birth Speed Merging, Lalibela, and King Of Kings ... CD
Motown, 1973. Used
A really mixed bag of grooves from the Crusaders – but still an album that's quite tasty if you dig their work on the Chisa label! The disc appears to be a greatest hits collection – with the "best" in the title – but it's more a summation of the styles they'd been ... CD
