At Peace With Woman

LP (Item 5621) Philadelphia International, 1980 — Condition: Used
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP

Classic Jones Girls for Philly! The record's a landmark album in the shift from Philly disco to sophisticated modern – and the smooth tight vocals of The Jones Girls are to the latter half of Philly what the runaway singing of Three Degrees were to the early half. Includes their excellent remake of the Stylistics' "Children of the Night" – which has a cool sample riff on the intro – plus the cuts "I Just Love The Man", "When I'm Gone", "At Peace With Woman", and "Back In the Day". One of the best female records on Philly International, and with excellent work by Dexter Wansel and Kenny Gamble! (Includes the printed inner sleeve.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Turn Me Loose
Philadelphia International, 1978. Very Good
Although they labored for years in the Philly singles-only scene of the late 60s and early 70s, People's Choice finally got their chance to cut some full LPs during the late 70s for Philly International. By that time, the band had changed their harder funk sound into a more proto-disco sound, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Time Is Slipping Away
Philadelphia International, 1979. Very Good-
Wicked work from Dexter Wansel – a funky classic for Philly International, put together with just the sort of care he brought to his albums for other artists! The album's a bit more straight Philly than some of Dexter's earlier records – a bit less of the cosmic funk from before, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Survival
Philadelphia International, 1975. Very Good+
Not one of their most classic Philly LPs, but still a nice batch of soul tracks with the usual perfect Gamble-Huff production, and harmonies that definitely go the distance! Tracks include "What Am I Waiting For", "Give The People What They Want", "Rich Get Richer", ... LP, Vinyl record album

The O'Jays keep on going strong – hitting a smooth mellow Philly vibe that takes them away from the style of their mid 70s hits! The sound here is a bit more uptempo than on the previous album So Full Off Love – but the group are still also really using the time to explore their ... LP, Vinyl record album

Philadelphia International, 1980. Very Good-
One of the harder to find albums by this great east coast group from the 70s (actually, they're all pretty hard to find), and a nice batch of smooth group soul cuts with stunning late Philly production. Philadelphia International, 1970. Very Good
An amazing early album from Billy Paul – the start of a rich career of sophisticated soul, and a record that really put Paul on the map right away – making him one of the most soulful interpreters of song in the 70s! Bicentennial Poet
Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good+
A weird record for Philly International to put out, and an obscure bit of righteous political poetry with funky backing, in the vein of Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets, or Wanda Robinson. Jean-Claude T delivers a number of short cuts like "Nude and Next To Nature", "My Moms and ... LP, Vinyl record album

With Love
Philadelphia International (Italy), 1975. Sealed
An Italian album released by CBS – compiling Philly International tracks by Three Degrees, most of them stormers, in that strong pre-disco mode that the girls were working in. The album that they recorded after the one with "I'll Always Love My Momma". This one tends to get obscured by that one, but it's got some great material by this always-strong group. Stylistics
Avco, 1971. Very Good-
A masterpiece of harmony soul – one of THE all-time greats of the genre, and a lasting treasure from The Stylistics!
