Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Delmark, 1958. Used
Some of the few recordings ever made by this tremendous talent from the St Louis scene of the 50s – tenorist Bob Graf, a player with a raspy, modern tone! The work here is nicely stretched out – longer tracks recorded live at Westminster College – partly with a jamming, bop-influe ... CD

For Alto
Delmark, 1969. Used

A masterpiece through and through from arranger Gil Evans – a record of swinging modern backdrops, used to showcase both the solo talents of a young Cannonball Adderley, and the dynamic energy of Evans himself! Cannon's sharp-edged early tone is a really great sound for the record – ... CD

Ramsey Lewis

Funky Serenity
Columbia/Collectables, 1973. Used
Sweet electric funk from Ramsey Lewis! The album's one of his best from the 70s – and it's got Ramsey on Fender Rhodes, electric harpsichord, and other keyboards, grooving away in an open-ended 70s mode that still retains all the heavy soul of his classic work for Chess. Morris Jennings ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1957. Used
Hmmm . . . Don't know what the "difference" is here, given that the set was one of a number of Duke-inspired sessions of the late 50s, but given that Terry was a big force in the best ones, and that he's working here with some of Duke's best players, we'll give the set a thumbs up! The ... CD

Freddie Redd

Redd's Blues
Blue Note, 1961. Used
A real corker from Freddie Redd – and never issued at the time! Despite the fact that Freddie was part of one of the greatest sessions ever on Blue Note – the soundtrack to The Connection, done with Jackie McLean – he rarely got the chance to record more for the label, which is ... CD
Impulse, 1969. Used
One of the most beautiful albums that Charlie Haden ever recorded – and if he only ever appeared on one record in his life, we'd still love him tremendously for this one! The album has a feel that's very much in keeping with both the "liberation" and "orchestra" in the ... CD
