No Frills

LP (Item 558808) Rounder, 1984 — Condition: Near Mint-

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

MCA, 1973. Very Good-
They still ain't got no band, and they're still riding along at the height of their acapella success – one that was no doubt due to rising mainstream interest in older musical modes as part of the rock and roll revival of the post-Woodstock years – something that probably helped the ... A&M, 1974. Very Good+
A great little record from the Persuasions – and a bit different than their earlier work, too! Unlike a lot of the group's other records from the early 70s – most of which are all-acapella – this one features the group's rich harmony vocals backed by some heavier funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Magic

Welcome Back
Capitol, 1981. Near Mint-
A wonderful album – one of the group's best! The album was a "comeback" effort – but it's still got stone Philly production from Norman Harris, with a sound that's right up their with their best Atco sides from the mid 70s. In fact, the harmonies are even better than before, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Floaters

Floaters
ABC, 1977. Near Mint-
Their classic, with the great long version of "Float On", which is a monster soul cut that stands tall with steppers and rappers alike. It's probably the best track they ever did, and it's all here in a version that's nearly 12 minutes long – with loads of samples that you'll ... LP, Vinyl record album

Curtis Mayfield

Back To The World
Curtom, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
Pure genius from Curtis Mayfield – and a record that's got all the righteousness and political power you might guess from the cover! The album burns with a sense of empowerment that's every bit the best strength of Curtom in the 70s – a sublime blend of heavy soul, funky undercurrents, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Minnie Riperton

Adventures In Paradise
Epic, 1975. Very Good
Maybe our favorite-ever album from Minnie Riperton during the 70s – a sweet, smooth jazzy gem that really makes some of the best use of her vocals! There's a sophistication here that's a great 70s counterpart to Minnie's earlier work with Charles Stepney – served up here in a very ... LP, Vinyl record album

Donny Hathaway

Donny Hathaway Live
Atco, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
Massively beautiful work from the great Donny Hathaway! After two studio albums that had firmly put him on the map as one of the 70s best soul talents, Atco had the genius to have Donny record this live album before very enthusiastic crowds in Hollywood and New York. The result is one of the best ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns

Blow For Me, A Toot To You
Atlantic, 1977. Very Good
After Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker came head to head with James Brown in the mid 70s, they broke off and formed the Horny Horns contingent – a tight funky backing section that's featured on a number of late 70s funk sessions, and which also recorded some extremely nice numbers on their own! ... Hi Records, 1974. Very Good
Easily our favorite album ever by Ann Peebles – not just for the beathead title track, but also because it seems to be the one record where she brings a bit something extra to the studio! The sound is certainly in the classic Hi Records mode here – thanks to production by Willie ... LP, Vinyl record album
