Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Milt Jackson

Statements
Impulse/GRP, 1961/1964. Used
A great statement from vibist Milt Jackson – one of his key solo sessions in a great 60s run of recordings away from the Modern Jazz Quartet! Like the classics that followed this one, the vibe is much more soulful than any of Milt's records with the MJQ – kind of an extension of the ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1963. Used
A great little set from that time when Milt Jackson was fronting a group that also included Jimmy Heath on tenor – a wonderful pairing of talents that made for some of Milt's most soulful sides of the 60s! Heath's sharp-edged tone is a great contrast to Jackson's smoother touch on the vibes ... CD

Milt Jackson

Prophet Speaks
Qwest/Reprise, 1994. Used
With Cedar Walton on piano, John Clayton on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums – plus Joshua Redman on tenor and guest vocals by Joe Williams! CD
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
A record that hardly seems like workin at all, given the ease with which the group lays down the music – especially trumpeter Miles Davis, whose work here is like magic – and tenorist John Coltrane, who was really coming into his own with this recording! The set's one of a handful from ... CD

Cal Tjader

Tjader Plays Mambo
Fantasy/OJC, 1954/1956. Used
Classic 50s west coast Latin grooves – played by Cal Tjader and a tasty Bay Area combo that includes Benny Velarde on timbales and conga, Manuel Duran on piano, and Carlos Duran on bass! The tracks are short, but have a tight group feel – really driving in a nicely rhythmic mode, with ... CD

Thelonious Monk

Thelonious Monk Trio
Prestige/OJC, 1952/1954. Used
Key early trio material from Thelonious Monk – a record that features seminal recordings of important compositions, all done in sharply angular versions that showcase the best modern Monk touch on piano! As with a number of early Prestige LPs, the material here is pulled from 2 different ... CD

Tadd Dameron with John Coltrane

Mating Call
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
A sublime early set from John Coltrane – and one of Tadd Dameron's greatest moments on record ever! The session's a laidback quartet one – with John Simmons on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, completing the group with Dameron on piano and Trane on tenor – all coming together ... CD

With Eddie Gomez on bass and Eliot Zigmund on drums. CD

Dave Brubeck

Jazz At Oberlin
Fantasy/OJC, 1953. Used
A classic album from Dave – recorded at Oberlin College, the mid-Ohio haven of bohemiana, and a growing hotbed of jazz activity centered around students in the college's conservatory of music. Dave and crew made the trip at the request of the kids – breaking from their mostly San ... CD

Teddy Edwards

Heart & Soul
Contemporary/OJC, 1962. Used
One of our favorite albums by Teddy Edwards – and one with some organ in the group! This obscure quartet side has Gerry Wiggins playing a rare bit of Hammond – grooving the group with a lean and open-ended soul jazz approach that really has Edwards blowing at his best! The style sits ... CD
Pablo/OJC, 1960. Used
A real treat for Cannonball Adderley fans in the years after his passing – vintage live material recorded in 1960, right at a time when Adderley was really finding his groove! The lineup here features a classic quintet – with brother Nat on cornet, Victor Feldman on piano, Sam Jones on ... CD
Contemporary/OJC, 1987. Used
George Cables takes on the music of George Gershwin – but in a set that's way more than just the usual batch of songbook standards! Cables has that warm glow that always makes us feel like he's playing electric, even when he's acoustic, as on this session – kind of a fluid glide that's ... CD
