Staircase

LP (Item 556643) ECM, 1977 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
Four beautiful side-long solo piano pieces from Keith Jarrett – "Staircase", "Hourglass", "Sundial", and "Sand".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear, aging, and is lightly bent at the right side.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Keith Jarrett

Hymns/Spheres
ECM, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A very unusual record – one that has Keith Jarrett playing some solo organ – and a baroque organ at that – but in ways that are quite different than you might expect! The sounds here are amazing – almost noisy at points, as Jarrett really works the instrument in an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett

Expectations
Columbia, 1972. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A totally wonderful album from the young Keith Jarrett – and a set that's different than most of the pianist's other well-known modes – not his solo improvisations, not his successful trio material, and not even his more outside quartet modes of the 70s – but instead this ... Keith Jarrett

Treasure Island
Impulse, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
Ultra-hip work from pianist Keith Jarrett – a session that's filled with joy and life, and which has a lot more energy than some of his albums for ECM! The work here is kind of a refinement of the freer styles that Jarrett had laid down on previous albums – performed with a strongly ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Abercrombie

John Abercrombie Quartet
ECM, 1979. Very Good+
A great set from the John Abercrombie Quartet – that late 70s group that seemed to find one of the best matches for John's unusual phrasing on the guitar – with round, warm work on bass from George Mraz, equally great piano from Richie Beirach, and drums from Peter Donald. The songs ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny Group
ECM, 1978. Very Good+
A near-legendary album from Pat Metheny – the real birth of the "Metheny sound" on record, and a perfect example of the magically fluid groove that he crafted with keyboardist Lyle Mays! The sound here is hard to describe – and even harder when you try to pick out the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Duet
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
Genius work from the team of Chick Corea on piano and Gary Burton on vibes – both players who were already making a lot of magic in the 70s, but who really seem to explode in the company of each other! Burton's tones are wonderfully bold and firm – these cascading colors that merge ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

New Chautauqua
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
A completely solo album from Pat Metheny – but one that still sparkles with the same sort of energy as his fuller group sessions for ECM! At a point when Pat could be content to simply scrawl a few simple lines on the strings of his guitar, he instead does a great job of complicating things ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett/Dennis Russell Davies

Ritual
ECM, 1977. Sealed
The best Keith Jarrett spirit of the 70s – those long, exploratory lines he virtually invented on solo piano – performed here by pianist Dennis Russell Davies! The set's one of the warmest we've ever heard from Davies – as he spins out on two side-long interpretations of this ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shirley Scott

Everybody Loves A Lover
Impulse, 1964. Very Good+ Gatefold
A simple formula, but one of Shirley's best records from the mid 60s, and a tight batch of quartet tracks that also features Stanley Turrentine on tenor. The title cut's a classic jazz stepper in Chicago, with a subtly loping groove that works pretty darn well. Other tracks include "Blue ... LP, Vinyl record album
