Retrospective

LP (Item 555827) Columbia, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Lots of Epic Records killers from Mose Allison – titles that were a big influence on the UK mod scene too! Titles include "Baby Please Don't Go", "I Love The Life I Live", "Fool's Paradise", "You're A Sweetheart", "Back On The Corner", and "V8 Ford Blues".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Carol Sloane

Out Of The Blue
Columbia, 1961. Very Good-
A beautiful little record from singer Carol Sloane – a singer who's billed as a discovery from the Newport Jazz Festival – but who sings here with shimmeringly modern arrangements that recall some of June Christy's best 50s work with arranger Pete Rugolo! The force behind the backings ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sarah Vaughan

Sarah Vaughan In Hi Fi
Columbia, 1955. Near Mint-
One of Sarah's few albums for Columbia – and quite possibly the best, thanks to some great small group backing, heard on 8 of the album's 12 tunes! The group's a really great one – with Miles Davis on trumpet, Benny Green on trombone, Buddy Johnson on tenor, Tony Scott on clarinet, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams

That's What Friends Are For
Columbia, 1978. Very Good+
A superb set of duets between Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams – a set that's a key part of Johnny's rise into soul music during the 70s, and one that also forms a cornerstone of the early career of Deniece Williams too! Williams' soaring vocal range is a great match for the trademark ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mel Torme

That's All
Columbia, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the greatest, straightest sets from Mel Torme – an all-classic batch of tracks that's quite different than his other album for Columbia! Tony Bennett

Who Can I Turn To
Columbia, 1964. Near Mint-
A 60s classic from Tony Bennett – a record that sported a huge title hit, but which also stands strongly as a really unified album! Shirley Horn

Embers & Ashes
Stereocraft, 1960. Very Good+
An early album by Shirley, and a haunting batch of lonely songs of lost love that has Shirley singing with her trio of Joe Benjamin and Herb Lovelle. The material's very much in keeping with the "classic" sound that's been so popular during her recent revival, and the record stands as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sammy Davis Jr & Laurindo Almeida

Sammy Davis Jr Sings – Laurindo Almeida Plays
Reprise, 1966. Very Good+
The closest thing Sammy D ever came to cutting a bossa album – and a lovely batch of fragile tunes that feature no other instrumentation save for the guitar of Laurindo Almeida. Almeida plays acoustic guitar on the album, in a gentle style that supports Sam's rich voice as it works through a ... LP, Vinyl record album
