so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.
Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-")
the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible
for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt
to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Funky dancefloor material from the Isleys – pretty guitar-heavy, and not really their best moment, as the soul quotient's a bit low, and they're kind of lost in the grooves. "I Wanna Be" is served up in a disco version, which is really just an extended funker. 12-inch, Vinyl record
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Hit work from the legendary Peter Brown – a key player in far more club sides than we can remember, but a real chart-topper with this one! You may know the a-side, which is offered here in a nice long take with a drum break in the middle – but don't miss "Burning Love", which ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Completely sublime! Shuggie Otis first wrote and recorded "Strawberry Letter 23", but it took The Brothers Johnson, and some smooth Quincy Jones production to make it a hit! The track loses none of it's original trippy soul in this version – and if anything, the better vocals ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Two 80s groove classics! We don't know if we should feel guilty about loving these cuts or not, but you shouldn't, whether you're playing a back to the old school set or just reliving some fine early 80s moments like we like to do once in a while! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Another huge hit of the C'est Chic album that gave us "Le Freak", with a similar uplifting piano groove and a chirping guitar line that kept us bouncing in the roller rink as kids. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Gene's hit his modern soul stride on this one – grooving nicely on "I'll Make The Living", done in a smooth voiced approach that shows yet another chapter in his rich career as a singer! 12-inch, Vinyl record
A wonderful crossover club classic! The track's certainly got enough disco to earn its name – but it's also got these cool dark keyboards, jerking along in a Danceteria style that gives the track a very different twist! 12-inch, Vinyl record
A warm groove and a bit of boogie on the bottom – one of the more memorable tracks from Frank Hooker and his Positive People! "This Feelin" is remixed here – a bit more upbeat than the original. 12-inch, Vinyl record
