A 2CD collection of 90s work recorded by Jack McDuff for Concord Records! Sure, it's not Prestige Records in the 60s, but the music is still plenty darn great – thanks to the never-failing talents of Brother Jack in his later years! At the time these sides were released, we remember wincing that Jack had moved onto Concord Records – often home of the softer side of jazz. But as the records came out, we were impressed at the strength of their grooves – and the way that McDuff could hold onto a classic Hammond-heavy sound in the Concord setting – and never give into some of the sleepier modes of the label. Production here is all pretty great – clear and clean, and with plenty of space for Jack to unleash some of his impeccably creative solos – and other players on the dates include Gene Harris on piano, Red Holloway on tenor, Joey DeFrancesco on Hammond, and George Benson on guitar. 2CD set features 19 tracks that include "Rock Candy", "Killer Joe", "Pork Chops & Pasta", "Sundown", "Pettin The Cat", "The Scratch", "Color Me Blue", "Saturday Night Fish Fry", "Age Of Aquarius", "Cayenne Blues", "Funk Pie", and "The Heatin System".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Used CD Grade

We use the all-encompassing grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or packaging details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the CD. This might include, but isn't limited to, scratches, tracks that skip, case/insert damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Prestige, 1961. Used
One of the records that put a young Brother Jack McDuff on the map – and a perfect example of the rougher R&B roots that first emerged in his early work on the Hammond! The session's got a much more down-n-dirty feel than some of McDuff's tighter 60s quartet work – and offers a ... CD

Cal Tjader & Carmen McRae

Heat Wave
Concord, 1982. Used
In our opinion, Carmen always sounds best when she's singing with a small jazz combo backing her up – which is why we dig this tasty set from the early 80s, recorded with a great group led by Cal! The album's got some nice Latin touches – thanks to piano by Mark Levin, and conga work ... CD
