A record with a gimmick – but one that we really really like! The set's a tribute to the sounds of older Brazilian porn movies, done in a style that's really faithful to the original sound of the 70s – a mode that's never too kitschy, never just easy funk – but really well-done work with a tremendously groovy sound! Producer Che originally wanted to make a compilation of the best music from 70s Brazilian pornochanchadas, but found that the source material was in such bad shape that he couldn't do the job right – so he headed into the studio with a key group of musicians who really get the original sound of the films, and who revel here in a hiply-jazzy take on older grooves! We should say that the overall sound here is more jazzy and bossa-based than some of the skunkier funk of 70s US porno – a bit warmer, with some echoes of Italian soundtrack work of the same period – but still a gritty enough groove to fit the nasty scenes going on screen! Instrumentation includes lots of keyboards and vibes, and the album's a really great one that could easily be passed off as a 70s original – but which we like even more for its honesty about its intentions. Titles include "Desejos Ardentes", "A Bailonia De David", "Helena X Aldine", "Suite Para Pereio", "Sala Especial", "Mulher Objeto", "Simplesmente Gloria", "Vera A Diaba Loira", "Pixoxo Em Lua De Mel", and "A Jeitosa Do Morro".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

No suffering here – as these guys have an upbeat, joyous sound that really grabs us right away – a warm vibe that's very much their own, and which is a nice change from some of the more posturing retro soul on the market! In fact, although these guys work in an old school mode of live ... CD

Not the original Quatermass EP from The Heliocentrics – but material that takes off in an even fuller, heavier direction – and which may well be the funkiest sounds we've heard from these guys so far! The music is stunning right from the very first heavy bassline and sharp drum crackle ... CD

13 Degrees Of Reality
Now Again/Stones Throw, 2013. Used
If this is reality, lead us onward – as the set is a mindblowing batch of trippy psych-funk from The Heliocentrics – even more offbeat and experimental than before, in ways that make the combo the true heirs to the legacy first begun by Stark Reality! The album's definitely funky at ... CD

All My Relations
Daptone, 2019. Used
You might know Cochemea Gastelum from his work in The Dap-Kings over the years – but this time around, the saxophonist is very much his own man – blowing a version of his instruments that often seems electrified, ala classic Varitone from the late 60s – used in these really new ... CD

A really cool spy soundtrack from the Italian 60s scene – put together by Piero Umiliani with lots of jazzy touches! The music here is a nice change from the more obvious, more familiar American spy modes of the time – and often uses some cool vibes mixed with horns, to create this ... CD
