Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

EmArcy (Japan), 1954. Used
A key slice of Clifford Brown from the 50s – two long tracks both recorded in an open-ended jam session format, showing a side of Brown's powers that's even bolder and more inventive than some of his previous studio work! The album soars along beautifully – with Brownie in the lead ... CD

Blue Note, 1972. Used
Amazing stuff by Ronnie Foster – a sweet little album of slow funky keyboard tones, much more loosely arranged than his later work, with a dope groove that was years ahead of its time! The album's in some ways a blueprint for some of our favorite jazz-based hip hop – and although ... CD

Blue Note, 1971. Used
Genius, pure genius! This album's possibly the most perfectly realized set from the team of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes and Harold Land on reeds – a pair who work here with an electric bass player and a bit of electric piano (the latter from Joe Sample) – hitting territory that's ... CD
Miles Davis Vol 1
Blue Note, 1952/1954. Used
Excellent early hardbop work by Miles – recorded in 1952 and 1954, and some of his best early sides as a leader! Tunes are shorter, and perhaps more boppish, than you might expect from some of Miles' other 50s work – but in a way that still allows for many moments of lyrical beauty, ... CD
I'm Movin' On
Blue Note, Early 60s. Used
A great little trio session – one of Jimmy's hippest, featuring Grant Green on guitar and Donald Bailey on drums. The talents of Green are quite welcome here – as his lighter touch on the strings makes Jimmy open up a bit more than with some of his other compatriots in this format ... CD
Up At Minton's – Vols 1 & 2
Blue Note, 1961. Used 2 CDs
An excellent early live set that has Stanley playing with a raw tone that you'd hardly recognize if you only know his later, sweeter records. The group's a lively soul jazz quintet, with Grant Green on guitar, playing the kind of hard single note solos that made his early recordings so great, and ... CD

Prestige/OJC, 1957. Used
A perfect example of the great skill that Prestige had for taking a good ensemble player, and putting him into a context that really let him open up in a manner that brought his best points to light! In this case, Quinichette's plucked from Basie's group and put with a tight bunch of soulful ... CD

Prestige/OJC, 1961. Used
A rare pre-Blue Note gem from pianist Duke Pearson – originally recorded in 1961 for the short-lived Jazzline label! The set appears here in a short-lived 1969 incarnation from Prestige – issued, no doubt, to cash in on Pearson's growing fame at Blue Note – and the record's a ... CD
