Post-Lovelites work by singer Patti Hamilton – recording here as a solo act with her old producer Clarence Johnson! Patti's going for a hard-stepping approach on "Cravin For Your Love", almost singing like Chaka Khan, with some tight arrangements from Tom Tom 84 that mix strings, tight drums, and a bit of funky guitar. There's a similar approach on "Come & Get It" – but almost funkier, with some nice moogy keyboards swirling through the cut! (Label has a small sticker.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Date, Late 60s. Very Good
The Steelers were one of the best Chicago soul groups of the late 60s – but they never really cut an album, and issued only a handful of great singles for different labels. This one's one of their best – and it features nice production by Al Smith and Calvin Carter of Vee Jay fame. ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Another nice funky groover from Redd Holt! Holt's drums ring out nice and loud on both tracks - the groovy sing-song funk number "Gimme Some Mo", and the flipside, which is a great instrumental cover of the big hit! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
Two good mellow soul cuts from one of his great Atlantic albums. "Groovin" is a bit uptempo, but "You Turned Me On" is a great soul cut. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Atco, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Forget the a-side, which is a dreamy instrumental, because the b-side's the real winner! "8th Wonder" is a nice groovy instrumental – with some hard drums at the beginning, and with King playing varitone in a nice mod fuzzed out style! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Polydor, Late 60s. Very Good
Killer funky stuff from JB, and just about everything you'd want from him: hard grooves, heavy politics, and lots of nice funky playing by the band! Also the inspiration for the great Talkin' Loud label! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Superfly/Underground
Curtom, 1972. Very Good
Here's a classic – Curtis' theme to Superfly, and a tune that never seems to get old. The track's got a stop-start chugging groove that's instantly infectious, laid out by basslines and conga, plus some nice wah wah guitar mixed with Curtis' vocals!
