Armed & Extremely Dangerous

LP (Item 5535) Philly Groove, 1973 — Condition: Very Good+

A landmark LP by this famous Philly trio who forever went onto change the face of club music! The record is pre-disco, but has a great strident soul sound, augmented by tight Norman Harris arrangements. Features the famous title hit – "Armed & Extremely Dangerous" – a great one in the "crime" soul subgenre, plus "Smarty Pants", "Newsy Neighbors", and lots more.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Delfonics
Philly Groove, 1970. Very Good+
The third album in an amazing early run from The Delfonics – the kind of work that set a whole new standard for group soul in the 70s! Ted Taylor

Ted Taylor 1976
TK/Alarm, 1976. Near Mint-
An overlooked set from Ted Taylor – one of those singers who kept moving around to different labels, never quite finding his home – but always doing some great work in the process! Ted's quite different here than on his 60s work for Okeh – much more in the southern soul territory ... LP, Vinyl record album

Millie Jackson

I Got To Try It One Time
Spring, 1974. Near Mint-
One of Millie's great early Spring LPs, with a deep hard soul sound that she never matched on later releases. Despite claim of the big hit on here "I Got To Try It One Time", Millie sounds like she's tried it a lot more than that, and you can hear the proof on tracks like "My Love ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cybotron

Enter Cybotron
Fantasy, 1983. Near Mint-
A mindblowing debut from Cybotron – one of the most unusual groups to ever hail from Detroit – and that's saying a hell of a lot, given the musical legacy of the city! Cybotron have a sound that's starkly electronic, and a huge influence on later electro, hip hop, techno, and house ... LP, Vinyl record album

Little Richard

Rill Thing
Reprise, 1970. Near Mint-
A mindblowing set from Little Richard – a stunning comeback session from the start of the 70s – recorded at Muscle Shoals with a heavy funk component in the mix! Richard arranged and produced the record himself – and it's a beautiful illustration of his genius – hardly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dee Dee Bridgewater

Just Family
Elektra, 1978. Near Mint-
This one's a real shift from her earlier jazz-based work, or her recent recordings for Verve – and a sweet funky fusion album that Dee Dee recorded for Elektra in the late 70s. The set was produced by Stanley Clarke, and has a soul/fusion sound that's not that different than his own work of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Whitfield, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold
The third album from the mighty Rose Royce – working here in perfect hit formation – with older styles of harmony soul wrapped around some of the best late 70s mainstream funk modes – all produced to perfection by the mighty Norman Whitfield! Whitfield's guidance of the group is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Millie Jackson

Live & Uncensored
Spring, 1979. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Uncensored is right! Millie's live shows during the 70s were a lot raunchier than any of her records – and were usually filled with profanity, off-color jokes, and plenty of frank and foxy references to sex. She'd built her name on record through sweet heartbreaking southern soul sides ... LP, Vinyl record album

Temptations

Masterpiece
Gordy, 1973. Near Mint-
They certainly got the title right on this one – because the album's an early 70s masterpiece from the Temptations – one of the last in their legendary run of records with Norman Whitfield! By this point, the group are way past simple harmony soul – and are working with Whitfield ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1980. Near Mint-
One thing about The Dells: They were always great! Even here, at the end of the 70s, in settings that are less perfect than their classic work for Cadet or Vee Jay, the group still sound wonderful – more daring vocally than most other harmony groups at the time, cutting through some smoother ... Gordy, 1965. Near Mint-
The Temptations sing the work of Smokey Robinson – and they've even got Smokey along to help them out on production! Given the high Robinson quotient on the set – both on production and songwriting – you'd almost expect this one to be a copycat of The Miracles' music at the time. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Claude Bolling

French Jazz
Bally, 1956. Near Mint-
An early batch of tracks from French arranger Claude Bolling – probably best known for his later "jazz meets classical" work, but heard here in a great straight set from the 50s! The album features Bolling at the head of a largeish group that features Parisian players Roger Guerin, ... LP, Vinyl record album
