Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Repercussions

Earth & Heaven
Warner, 1995. Used
Basically the Groove Collective, with the absence of a few of their horn players and female vocalist Nicole Willis. Mining a vein that was very much in the bag of where the Heavies were during the mid 80s, this is jazzy modern soul with tight grooves, crisp production and a sense of history that ... CD

Foreign Exchange

Love In Flying Colors
HBD, 2013. Used
The best yet from Foreign Exchange! FE began as a transatlantic collaboration between rapper/singer Phone in NC and producer Nicolay in Holland – who literally got it done by exchanging files online – but since Nicolay moved closer, they've grown into one of finest indie soul acts in ... CD
Cheeky I, 2001. Used 2CDs
Brilliant work by one of our favorite NuSoul singers! N'Dambi's moving way past her Little Lost Girls Blues album on this set – a beautiful 2CD set that showcases a much more expansive musical vision than before! The set's got the feel of a laidback studio session with N'Dambi – as ... CD

Angela Johnson

Got To Let It Go
Purpose, 2005. Used
Brilliant work from Angela Johnson – stepping out here as one of the strongest singers on the American soul scene in the past few years, with a depth and sound that's sure to make her huge in years to come! There's a really amazing sound here – an almost effortlessly soulful quality ... CD
Trama (Brazil), 2005. Used
A bold move forward for Ed Motta – an artist who's already been making plenty of bold moves in the past few years! Aystelum further expands on the musical journey begun by Ed on Dwitza and Poptical – but it really pushes the envelope even more, and brings a lot more cosmic jazz and ... CD

Cunnie Williams

Night Time In Paris
Universal (France), 2002. Used
Deeply soulful work from Cunnie Williams – recorded in Paris, with a mix of classic and nusoul styles, all a perfect showcase for Cunnie's incredible vocals! Cunnie's got a style of singing that's part Barry White, part Gil Scott-Heron, part Teddy Pendergrass – with a wealth of other ... CD
Epic (Japan), 1999. Used
A seminal set in helping shape the sound of Neo Soul for the 21st Century – the solo debut of Amel Larreiux, recorded after an initial rise to fame in Groove Theory! The set's got a simple, yet seductive groove – a mix of spare beats and keyboards that really gives Amel's sweet vocals ... CD
BMG (UK), 1994. Used
Brilliant work by Omar – his 3rd album, supposedly a real break-out effort, but a record that disappeared almost immediately, thanks to poor handling by the label! The record's an excellent batch of instant-classic soul tracks – done with a modern production twist, but still very much ... CD
Def Soul, 2000. Used
Classic-styled soul from Musiq Soulchild – his debut set for Def Soul, and the start of a great run of mellow grooves! As you might guess from the compressed wording of the title, the tunes here have a great set of flow – a laidback, kicked-back sort of sound that's not nearly as full-o ... CD

Mondo Grosso

Man From Sakura Hills
For Life (Japan), 1998. Used
One of the most soulful albums by this tasty Japanese combo! Most of the tracks on the record have a strong uptempo groove, with strident soulful female vocals – very much in the manner of those you'd hear on a Monday Michiru record. The album's only got 6 tracks – but they're all ... CD

Esther Phillips

Burnin/Confessin The Blues
Atlantic/Collectables, Early 70s. Used
2 albums recorded by Esther in the years before she broke into big fame on the Kudu label. Burnin is a stunning live set that marked Esther's move from being a loud young R&B singer into an older, more mature interpreter of material in a more jazzy style. She's backed here by a good group ... CD
