Le Mans – Original Soundtrack

LP (Item 55225) Columbia, 1970 — Condition: Near Mint-
A very cool soundtrack to this excellent Steve McQueen film! The soundtrack's quite different than most of Legrand's work from the time – in that it's kind of a collage of music, sounds from the film, racing bits, and other material – all fused into a beautiful blend that's still quite musical, and which acts almost as an aural representation of the film itself. Legrand gets out some great melodies that rank with his other work of the time – but they sound different, with racing cars blasting through them! Includes 2 vocal numbers with lyrics by Marilyn & Alan Bergman – "The Shooting Gallery" and "A Face In The Crowd" – plus the tracks "Delaney's Arrival & Memories", "The Race, First Laps", and "The Race, Final Laps".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Happy Ending
United Artists, 1969. Near Mint-
A slice of genius from Michel Legrand – one of his brilliant late 60s soundtracks, not as well remembered as, but cut during the same period as The Thomas Crown Affair. The soundtrack is probably best remembered for the incredible theme "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Graduate – Original Soundtrack
Columbia, 1968. Very Good+
A tremendous little soundtrack – even if you've seen it a million times! Simon & Garfunkel always had a really dark quality to their music, but it never seemed to show as much on the pop charts as it did when used brilliantly by Mike Nichols in this important film. Their tunes emerge in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cruising
Columbia/Lorimar, 1980. Near Mint-
Strange mix of tracks for this film that has Al Pacino going undercover in New York's gay scene of the 70s. Most of the tracks are discrete songs, not instrumentals, and produced by Nitzsche. Jerome Bailey and Mutiny turn in one funk number called "Lump", and other tracks include "L ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gunn . . . Number One!
RCA, 1968. Very Good
Nice 60s crime jazz from Mancini! Although Mancini's fame was made in the late 50s for his work on the classic Peter Gunn TV show, it's less known that he also did the score for the less-than-successful Peter Gunn film. Directed in 1967 by Blake Edwards, the film was a weak attempt to transfer ... LP, Vinyl record album

Man Called Adam
Reprise, 1966. Very Good-
A nice little soundtrack from the prime years of the Rat Pack – for a film that featured Sammy Davis Jr as a trumpet player! Seduced & Abandoned
CAM, 1964. Near Mint-
A great Italian comedy score from the early 60s – put together in key transitional modes by composer Carlo Rustichelli! The music is a great mix of those older, more sentimental Italian styles with some of the cleaner, leaner, playful sounds that were beginning to emerge in the 60s – ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1968. Sealed
A fantastic early soundtrack from the great Pat Williams – cut around the same 60s stretch that he was doing his wonderful albums for Verve – in the years before he'd break bigger with TV work for The Bob Newhart Show and other 70s programs! 36 Hours
Vee Jay, Mid 60s. Sealed
A stark and jagged soundtrack for this mid 60s thriller that starred James Garner and Eva Marie Saint.
