Love Chimes

LP (Item 552159) Hi Records/Demon (UK), Mid 70s — Condition: Near Mint-

A great UK collection of Hi Records singles and LP tracks by Syl Johnson – all recorded in Memphis by Willie Mitchell! Titles include "We Did It", "I'm Yours", "Feelin Frisky", "The Love You Left Behind", "I Want To Take You Home", "You Don't Know Me", "Please Don't Give Up On Me", and "I Let A Good Girl Go".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ms Fine Brown Frame
Erect/Boardwalk, 1982. Very Good+
A bit of a comeback for Chicago soul legend Syl Johnson – a set initially recorded for the smaller indie Erect, but picked up for bigger distribution by Boardwalk thanks to a catchy title hit! Otis Clay

I Can't Take It
Hi Records, 1977. Near Mint-
A great mix of modes – and a set that represents a real turning point in the career of Otis Clay! Al Green

Have A Good Time
Hi Records, 1976. Near Mint-
Although the date of this one might make you think that Al's softening it up a bit, that's definitely not the case! If anything, the record's a bit rougher than some of his earlier albums on Hi – with Willie Mitchell still working on production and arrangements, but perhaps not crossing all ... Hi Records, 1974. Sealed
Easily our favorite album ever by Ann Peebles – not just for the beathead title track, but also because it seems to be the one record where she brings a bit something extra to the studio! Average White Band

Put It Where You Want It
MCA, 1973. Near Mint-
Average White Band are most clearly associated with Atlantic Records during the 70s – and that label's genius move to record white soul acts for the crossover market – but this first album was recorded for MCA, and very much in the same vein as their later work. The record's not as ... LP, Vinyl record album

To The Limit
A&M, 1978. Very Good+
One of Joan Armatrading's real classics of the 70s – a record that perfectly blends her acoustic soul with some slightly tighter arrangements – but all at a level that still feels really personal and spontaneous!
