Chicago Breakdown – Takoma Blues Series

LP (Item 552100) Takoma, Early 60s — Condition: Sealed
Previously-unissued tracks by Little Brother Montgomery, John Lee Granderson, Big Joe Williams, James Cotton, and Eddie Boyd! All tracks recorded in the early 60s by Norman Dayron – mostly in Chicago basements and apartments!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

If it were up to us, every song Bo recorded would have been a hit – because they're all so great! This album does a pretty good job of sorting out the best numbers, though – picking 16 tracks from his all-great albums for Chess – with a focus on the tightest and most groove-heavy ... Bobby Rush

Sue
LaJam, 1981. Near Mint-
One of Bobby's greatest albums – a mix of electric blues and southern soul, forged in the heat of the Malaco studios in Jackson! The album's titled after Rush's incredible 8 minute track "Sue" – a tale of young love that has a hilarious monologue in the middle about this ... LP, Vinyl record album

Excellent 60s work from Little Milton – one of the few Chicago bluesmen of the 60s we actually dig! Plenty, Plenty Soul
Atlantic, 1957. Near Mint-
Plenty plenty soul here – as Milt Jackson's moving away from the Modern Jazz Quartet, and working with a great group of players that really expand his sound! One of the best albums ever recorded by this legendary Bay Area funk combo – a key part of that city's crossover scene, and a group who always deserves a second listen! Neapolitan Nights
Prestige, 1963. Very Good
Moody set of tracks that has Willis' fat tenor sound fronting a little combo on a set of "Italian" standards like "Arrividerci Roma", "Volare", "Al Di La", plus the original "Verdi's Vonce". Bucky Pizzarelli's on guitar, to give the LP a "Neaop ... LP, Vinyl record album
