My Man

LP (Item 551999) Liberty, Mid 60s — Condition: Sealed

(Mono pressing, still sealed with vintage sale sticker.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Si Zentner

Waltz In Jazz Time
Liberty, Early 60s. Near Mint-
A very swinging album from trombonist Si Zentner – done in a big band style, but with plenty of groovy touches that show the 60s period of the recordings! Si gets some great help on the records from Bob Florence – an arranger who really knows how to make a bigger band swing with the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sandy Nelson

Boogaloo Beat
Liberty, Late 60s. Very Good+
Groovy stuff from Sandy Nelson – one of his best albums ever! Despite the title, this isn't exactly the Latin soul adventure you might think – but it is a nice batch of drum-heavy instrumentals, with a good soul boogaloo beat to them. The best tracks are the ones with "boogaloo&qu ... LP, Vinyl record album

Franck Pourcel

Les Baxter's La Femme
Capitol, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A lush romantic reading of Les Baxter's extended suite "La Femme", a bunch of Frenchy sounding compositions designed to fit nicely with Capitol's "Capitol Of the World" series. Pourcel conducts the work in a rich European style, with the usual overblown number of musicians in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good-
Some of the grooviest Nelson Riddle albums recorded for Capitol – both of them swinging sets based around popular TV themes of the 50s and 60s! Nelson's no stranger to that sort of work, and both albums are warm, wonderful, and filled with plenty of jazzy touches that open up the tunes ... LP, Vinyl record album

You Smile – The Song Begins
A&M, 1974. Very Good+
Nice one from Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass – working with arranger Quincy Jones! You Smile – The Song Begins comes at a pretty interesting point in which Herb was still working in the Spanish-inflected, jazzy instrumental groove of earlier years – but in a fresh way after a ...
