He Is The Light

LP (Item 551958) A&M, 1985 — Condition: Near Mint-

(Cover has light wear and a cutout notch.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Al Green

I'll Rise Again
Myrrh, 1983. Very Good+
Al's firmly embraced his religion by this time – and this 1983 gospel release has him singing praises to the lord and the glory of creation. The record was produced by Al himself, and while it's got some weak 80s production touches, there are a few nice tracks that actually sound pretty good ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hi Records, 1972. Very Good+
Warm wonderfulness from the great Al Green – a record that may have a pale-looking cover, but a set that's one of Green's most deeply soulful albums ever! Herb Alpert

Beyond
A&M, 1980. Sealed
An incredible later record from Herb Alpert – working in a soulful funky fusion mode that really is well beyond the style that made him famous in the 60s! We love the easy breezy 60s sound of Herb & The Tijuana Brass too, but he really stepped up his game in exciting ways on records like ... LP, Vinyl record album

A&M, 1989. Very Good
A crowning moment in New Jack Swing – a perfect step forward for Janet Jackson, as she continues to work with the duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with a vibe that was setting the scene for the rest of mainstream soul at the time! The album's got a larger overall feel than her previous set ... LP, Vinyl record album

Melvin Van Peebles

As Serious as a Heart-Attack
A&M, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
Wild wicked funky stuff, from the man who gave the world Sweet Sweetback's Badass Song, and his son Mario! Melvin's wearing braids and a shirt that says "Rated X By An All-White Jury" on the front – and the grooves on the album have the same sort of confrontational vibe. Doug Carn ... Lani Hall

Sun Down Lady
A&M, 1972. Very Good+
The beautiful first solo album by Lani Hall – recorded after years of work with Sergio Mendes in the Brasil 66 group – and done in a style that certainly reflects her great vocals with that ensemble, yet which also expands her sound tremendously! Questionnaire
A&M, 1981. Near Mint-
An overlooked bit of crossover funk from Chas Jankel – best known both as the musical force of Ian Dury & The Blockheads during the late 70s, and as the composer of "Ai No Corrida", which was covered more famously by Quincy Jones!
