Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play,
but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic,
with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a
cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner
and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay,
though probably with surface noise.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Fantastic album of funky guitar tracks by this underrated player. Despite a cheesy Capitol cover, the groove on here is nice and hard, and Roberts guitar is backed by some great organ lines played by a young Dave Grusin. An unexpected place to dig up some nice breaks, like on the version of " ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little record – with some very groovy guitar! This is the kind of session that we used to pass up years ago because we never thought it was that pure. Now, though, thanks to beatheads worldwide, the great talents of Howard Roberts' Capitol years are finally getting recognized again. ... LP, Vinyl record album
Jaunty is a pretty darn great way to describe the Howard Roberts sound on Capitol Records – upbeat, grooving, and wonderfully well-rounded – bringing in a bit of funk, a bit of bossa, a bit of groovy, and coming up with a whole new sound in the process! Roberts guitar is wonderfully ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hip sh*t from Howard Roberts – working here with David Axelrod production, which brings an even cooler edge to his already-great approach to jazzy funk. Tom Scott is on saxes, Dave Grusin plays organ and electric piano, and Roberts' guitar is a lot more unbridled than on some of the other ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful gem from the great Howard Roberts! This mid 60s Capitol album features the guitarist working with organist Henry Cain – an underdiscovered west coast talent, and a player who's got a nicely stripped-down sound, very much in the vein of Walter Wanderley. Given that Roberts' style ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the best Kenton LPs ever, and one that really shows the band's beautiful blend of avant garde playing with a swinging jazz sensibility. Filled with fantastic material played by Lee Konitz, Charlie Mariano, and other Kenton modernists. If you've ever wondered why the Kenton band was so ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful record by Bobby Lyle – and a genius blend of jazz, soul, and lots of other righteous sounds! Lyle started out as a keyboardist, but this album really has him taking off as a vocalist too – working in a sweet Roy Ayers-styled groove – one that blends mellow rhythms ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great lost chapter in the Cannonball/David Axelrod story! The record features Cannon's classic quintet performing some longer, more serious works with orchestral backing – and the sound is vaguely similar to some of Axelrod's "high concept" work for Capitol. The record features ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the Jimmy Smith "jam session" Blue Notes, with a large group that includes Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, George Coleman, Tina Brooks, and Art Blakey – nearly all of whom take long solos and dig deep to compete with each other. 3 long tracks, "The Sermon", "JOS&quo ... LP, Vinyl record album
Damn great work from the amazing Eddie Harris – a record that's got a perfect blend of jazz and funk, but still holds onto more righteous elements too! Eddie's using his electric sax in a really great way – not as a gimmick at all, but as a way of linking both the soulful and ... LP, Vinyl record album
