Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play,
but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic,
with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a
cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner
and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay,
though probably with surface noise.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Excellent live material from Gray – recorded in Hollywood in 1952, but not issued until this late 70s package by Xanadu. Like other sides on that label, the material's well worth unearthing – especially as it features Gray in the sort of setting that hardly ever made it to record: a ... LP, Vinyl record album
LA bebop jam session material, featuring two long tracks recorded live in the city of angels! The sides give us a great picture of the kind of lively cutting jam sessions that were ripping through the Central Ave scene of the old days. Players include Dexter Gordon, Sonny Criss, Hampton Hawes, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Seminal sounds from the LA scene of the late 40s – one of the most important records to showcase the tenor talents of the legendary Wardell Gray – a key player on the harder side of the west coast for its formative bop years – and one whose career was cut short all too soon! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautiful bass work from 50s LA player Red Callender – heard here on this classic side recorded for the Modern imprint. Swingin Suite is easily one of Red's tightest sessions – a date that has Callender's basslines strongly leading a nonet of players that includes Harry Jones on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Yusef Lateef's Detroit is a mighty funky one – a great summation of all the soulful sounds he'd crafted on previous records, but with a full groove that really points the way towards the 70s! Lateef's reeds are still the main attraction – great solos on tenor and flute – but ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the first truly important records from Don Cherry as a leader – and an amazingly well-crafted session that brings together ideas from his early years with Ornette, and expands them with some of the freedoms he was learning from the European scene! The record boasts a format and lineup ... LP, Vinyl record album
A pivotal record from Lou Donaldson – one that has him forging out some of his first funky soul jazz sounds, moving from his bop roots, and working with a hip young group that includes Grant Green and John Patton, both of whom he discovered and brought to Blue Note (thanks Lou!) The tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album
A very unusual album for Jimmy – but a great one too! The set breaks the mode of Jimmy's small combo Sue work and features his organ amidst some larger arrangements from Fred Norman – a blend of skipping strings and jazzy rhythms that really lets Jimmy open up and groove around the top ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bootsy's still keeping the P-Funk flag flying high at the end of the 70s – arguably stepping out here with a sound that's got more of the Parliafunkadelicment elements intact than some of George Clinton's other spinoff groups! The tracks are long, and plenty jamming – still with plenty ... LP, Vinyl record album
