(Cover has a cut corner.)

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A rare early date as a leader for drummer Jack DeJohnette – a set done for the Japanese Trio label, and with a vibe that's similar to Jack's wonderful records for Prestige! Prestige, 1975. Very Good+
A pretty great little record from Jack DeJohnette – really offbeat on the rhythm tip, and early proof that he was one of the more forward-thinking drummers of the 70s! ECM, 1973. Near Mint- 3LP Box + Booklet
One of Jarrett's numerous solo piano recordings for ECM, and one that actually predates the watershed Koln Concert set. A completely solo album from Pat Metheny – but one that still sparkles with the same sort of energy as his fuller group sessions for ECM! ECM, 1974. Very Good+
Two of the greatest things going for ECM in the 70s – brought together on one record! ECM, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A very unusual record – one that has Keith Jarrett playing some solo organ – and a baroque organ at that – but in ways that are quite different than you might expect! The sounds here are amazing – almost noisy at points, as Jarrett really works the instrument in an ... LP, Vinyl record album
ECM (Germany), 1963/1968. Near Mint-
A 70s ECM album from Paul Bley, but one that features work from much earlier years – one session recorded in 1963, the other from 1968 – both done with Gary Peacock on bass, and either Billy Elgart or Paul Motian on drums! These early sides from Bley are quite interesting examples of ... LP, Vinyl record album

A heady double-length set from Keith Jarrett – some of his more sharper-edged work of the time, even though the session follows the free-flowing solo aproach of his other ECM recordings! The first half of the set features the extended "Invocations" suite – a work that has ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1963. Very Good+
A great little record – with some very groovy guitar! This is the kind of session that we used to pass up years ago because we never thought it was that pure.
