Interaction/Sing Me Softly Of The Blues

CD (Item 546261) Atlantic/Collectables, 1963/1965 — Condition: Used
$3.99 ...

CD

Reissue of two of Art Farmer's beautiful albums for Atlantic from the mid 60s! Both records have Farmer playing with modernist-oriented backing – one group is Jim Hall, Steve Swallow, and Walter Perkins; the other is Swallow, Steve Kuhn, and Pete LaRoca. As could be expected, these players have a much more open-ended sound than some of Farmer's other rhythm sections, and they offer him a complicated set of rhythms in which to interweave fragile lyrical solos. The albums are both great, and have been unavailable for years and years – until this nicely priced reissue came out! Tracks include "Loads Of Love", "Sometime Ago", "Days Of Wine & Roses", "Tears", "One For Majid", "Petite Belle", and "I Waited For You".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(1999 Collectables pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Art Farmer

Early Art
Prestige/OJC, 1954. Used
Art Farmer's always a delight – but he sounds especially great on this batch of early tracks, ones that have him grooving a bit harder than in later years, with a firey tone that really steps out at times. There's still plenty of Art's sweetness in the tunes, but the material is a bit more ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1955. Used
One of Art Farmer's pivotal mid 50s sides – recorded in the company of altoist Gigi Gryce, a great player and a budding young arranger who helped Farmer really formulate the best side of his sound! The tracks are lyrically modern – but still have a nice dose of soul in them – a ... CD

Kind of a meeting of two different generations of Dave Brubeck – as the group here features Paul Desmond's alto sax, a key force in Dave's early recordings – and the baritone sax of Gerry Mulligan, a player who'd worked often with Brubeck in the late 60s and early 70s! The blend of ... CD

Modern Jazz Quartet

Lonely Woman
Atlantic (France), Early 60s. Used
Truly one of the Modern Jazz Quartet's greatest albums – and a set that has an edge and a darkness that's missing from some of their other Atlantic records! Part of the reason for this may be the group's fantastic reading of Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman" – a killer moody ... CD
