❔

All-star roster on Motown through the years , including The Marvelettes, The Supremes, The Temptations, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Kendricks, Diana Ross, Thelma Houston, Commodores, and Rick James.  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeves. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Marvin Gaye

Here, My Dear
Motown, 1978. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Wonderful stuff – and one of our favorite-ever Marvin Gaye albums! This is the legendary two-record set that Marvin wrote and recorded as an alimony payment to his ex-wife Anna Gordy (the story's pretty long, and we won't get into it here – suffice it to say that when stars get a ... Commodores

Nightshift
Motown, 1985. Near Mint-
By this point in their career, The Commodores have lost Lionel Richie and any sort of funk credibility they had from their early years – but they also somehow manage to reemerge with a great new talent for a sweet mellow groove! The title tune "Nightshift" was one of those tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackson 5

ABC
Motown, 1970. Very Good
A seminal step forward for this legendary group – easily one of the greatest albums they ever cut! With ABC, the Jacksons are expanding their sound with the club-oriented grooves of the time – using Holland, Dozier, and Holland on many cuts, trying for a similar soaring groove as some ... Commodores

Heroes
Motown, 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
The Commodores tenth album – as you might guess from the big X on the cover – and a set that features some of the last great moments of Lionel Richie with the group! The album's a bit overlooked, but has a really great groove – kind of a middle ground between The Commodores' ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Kendricks

Slick
Tamla/Motown, 1977. Near Mint-
Smooth mellow grooves, in the style that Eddie pioneered, and which he still did better than most. The album's a great batch of tracks with production by Leonard Caston, who also produced some of Eddie's earlier works, and the set's pretty darn great all the way through. With the cuts "Someth ... Diana Ross

Diana
Motown, 1980. Very Good Gatefold
A record so big they dropped the "Ross" from Diana's name – just to show how large the lady was living at the end of the 70s! The album was a key set in the solo years of Diana's career – a back to basics dancefloor effort done with impeccable production by Bernard Edwards ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mary Jane Girls

Only Four You
Motown, 1985. Very Good+
A lasting classic from the funky female foursome who were one of the biggest acts on Motown in the mid-80s – working here with super tight production and arrangements from Rick James – who also wrote all the songs on the record too! The girls' look is a bit dated, but their sound has ... LP, Vinyl record album

Four Tops

Reach Out
Motown, 1967. Very Good-
A classic 60s album by the Four Tops – really one of their better efforts of the period – a record that finds the group working some soulful magic on a couple of their best known tunes, as well as adding a dose of deeper emotion to some hit songs of the time! Like other Motown success ... LP, Vinyl record album

Alexander Robotnick & Others

Fuzz Dance EP
Sire, 1985. Very Good-
Strange little 4 track release in which Sire records was trying to break a lot of the early 80s electro disco groups from Italy into the US market. The album's notable, though, for it's inclusion of the great "Problems D'Amour" by Alexander Robotnick, a nice groover that has some strong ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1974. Near Mint-
Tight funky work from Dr John – a second collaboration with producer Allen Toussaint, and a set that follows strongly on their Right Place record of the year before! The groove's not as messed-up as on the first few Atlantic records by the Doctor – but in it's place is a sweet electric ... LP, Vinyl record album
