Couldn't Stand The Weather

LP (Item 546116) Epic, 1984 — Condition: Very Good+
A landmark 80s record in the return of blues to the mainstream, right back in front of a rock audience with work like this – as the young Stevie Ray Vaughan cooks things up here on cuts that include "Couldn't Stand The Weather", "Stang's Swang", "Cold Shot", "Voodoo Chile", "Things That I Used To Do", and "Scuttle Buttin". Produced by John Hammond.  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original US pressing – FE 39304.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Folk Festival Of The Blues
Argo, 1963. Very Good+
Not the folk festival you might expect – especially given that the blues here are electric – and a set that was recorded at a small Chicago club, not some stuffy outdoor concert on the east coast! The album's an early powerhouse meeting of the best Chess blues talents at the time ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Dawkins

BB King

Completely Well
Bluesway, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
BB King soars into the 70s with this smoking little set – a record that still holds onto all the raw energy of his best 60s recordings, but which also gives the whole thing an even more soulful focus too! There's no arranger credited for the core of the record – which is attributed to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Percy Mayfield

Best Of Percy Mayfield
Specialty, 1950s. Near Mint-
A nice collection of Percy's classic work for Specialty Records from the 50s – issued here in a full LP package from 1970, when Percy was enjoying a bit of a revival. The work's a strong batch of tunes with a sophisticated smooth and bluesy feel – clearly a strong percursor to soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of those great Stinson label early sessions from Josh White – with titles that include "Outskirts Of Town", "One Meat Ball", "TB Blues", "Careless Love", and "Motherless Children". LP, Vinyl record album

T Bone Walker

Funky Town
Bluesway/ABC, Late 60s. Very Good+
Not as all-out funky as some of the funky blues albums on Chess at the time – but still nicely funky, and a very different album than usual for T Bone! Bob Darin

Commitment
Direction, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
Really fantastic later work from Bobby Darin – material that's quite different than the simple pop of his early Atco years, and even the jazzier style he used earlier on in the 60s! The set is one of two issued by the Direction label – and features Bobby taking off from some of the Tim ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1961. Very Good+
Jimmy Rushing reprises a nice batch of blues classics from the 20s, all of which were sung by early recording artists like Bessie or Clara Smith.
