✈

During the late 60s and early 70s, the Brunswick label was one of the greatest soul outfits working in Chicago. And of all the great contributions made by the label, perhaps the best was their great run of male soul singers – culled from Chicago's rich scene at the time, and featuring a mix of the city's harder and classier soul styles. This excellent 24 track set brings together some wonderful singles from that rich legacy of music – including many tracks by artists who recorded for Brunswick, but who never issued any full LPs! Titles include "We're Not Happy" by Wales Wallace, "Can I Change My Mind" by Mighty Doug Haynes, "Another Time, Another Place" by The Persuaders, "A Woman Needs To Be Loved" by Cicero Blake, "The Sweetest Thing" by Channel 3, "I Never Had It So Good" by Walter Jackson, "Saving My Love For You" by Mister T, "Where The Lillies Grow" by Sidney Joe Qualls, and "Contract On Your Love" by Chuck Bernard. Like finding a rare stash of singles – a dream!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Soul Of Gene Chandler
Brunswick, Late 60s. Used
Excellent compilation of some of Gene's totally hard to find Brunswick soul sides from the late 60's. The arrangments are beautiful, sophisticated, and way way past the Duke of Earl type stuff that he's best know for. And the CD includes such gems as "Good Times", "Buddy Ain't It A ... CD
West Side (UK), 1960s. Used
Huge in Chicago, but not nearly as well-known elsewhere, The Sheppards were one of the windy city's best-ever vocal groups, and they had a rich deep style that spanned the gap between R&B and Soul, in a similar manner to The Impressions. This long-overdue set brings together 25 cuts by the ... CD

Jarreau
Warner, 1983. Used
A massive set from Al Jarreau – a set that gave the singer one of his smoothest hits of all time, yet still kept him very firmly in the sort of sophisticated territory that set him apart from most of his contemporaries! The sound here is often a lot more understated than you'd expect – ... CD

Catchy soul from the mid 80s scene – one of the more mainstream efforts from a group who could also be a bit jazzy at times! The album's still got a quality that's better than most of the chart work of the period – a bit more of that British bounce at the bottom, even though the ... CD

100 Days 100 Nights
Daptone, 2007. Used
They might be borrowing her band, but they sure can't dampen her soul – because Sharon Jones is strongly back in action, and sounding funkier and more deeply soulful than ever! Given that Sharon wasn't singing back in the 60s, it's hard to think we'd be calling her the real deal – but ... CD
