Soul Stirring ZZ Hill (United)

LP (Item 545607) United, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good
Titles include "Everybody Has To Cry", "That's It", "What's More", "Oh Darling", "Set Your Sights Higher", and "If I Could Do It All Over".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Al Johnson

Back For More
Columbia, 1980. Very Good+
Wonderful work by Al Johnson – one of the unsung heroes of mellow 70s soul, finally getting his shot on a major label after many years as a songwriter and arranger for other aritsts. Norman Connors brought Al to Columbia – and as he did with other talents in earlier years, like Phyllis ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Uncle Jam Wants You
Warner, 1979. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of our favorite Funkadelic albums ever – a tightly grooving classic that never lets up at all! There's a sense of perfection to everything here – one that really gets the group past their tripped-out early years, and firmly into the sublime territory George Clinton hit with ... Fantastic Four

Night People
Westbound, 1976. Very Good+
One of their uptempo groovers from the mid 70's, with a mix of classic Detroit group soul and tighter disco sounds that were creeping into the Westbound label at the time. Paul Riser and David Van Depitte did the arranging, and the tracks include "If I Lose My Job", "Hideaway", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roberta Flack

First Take
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Maybe one of the most amazing debut records of all time – not only the record that first exposed the world to Roberta Flack, but a set that heralded so many changes to come in the following decade! Flack's genius here is almost impossible to put into words – part jazz, part soul, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, 1976. Very Good+
Mainstream funk tracks with a bit of a disco twist – featuring lots of keyboards upfront, and popping basslines in the bacground. Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Very Good+
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dalton & Dubarri

Choice
Hilltak/Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+
A free soul classic from the Dalton & Dubarri team – smooth and sweet soul with a nice slick finish, and a real talent for coming up with a catchy hook! A few cuts get a bit disco, in a bad way, but there's plenty of great midtempo numbers that sound as great as the earlier work by the ... LP, Vinyl record album
