Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Euphonic/Delmark, 1976. Used
Art Hodes remembers Bessie Smith – but in a stripped-down mode that's definitely all his own! The set's one of Art's great solo outings for the Euphonic label – cut in the mid 70s, in a very respectful way that allows plenty of space for his magnificent sense of tone and timing – ... CD

Trance Hypothesis
Delmark, 2013. Used
Maybe the trippiest album we've ever heard from guitarist Fareed Haque – but you've probably already guessed that from the image on the cover! The set's filled with all the kind of cool sounds you'd expect – and is almost a throwback to the great run of jazz-meets Eastern-meets funk ... CD

One of the most amazing players to ever pick up the vibes – an artist with the sort of boundless creativity that Walt Dickerson and Bobby Hutcherson brought to the instrument in the 60s! Jason Adasiewicz has an amazing ear for both sound and music – and manages to balance the two ... CD

Maybe the greatest work we've heard so far from Chicago bassist Jason Roebke – a key player on so many sessions for other jazzmen in recent years, but a hell of a visionary leader on his own! Roebke composed all new material for the record – and the set's performed by an octet that's ... CD

We Is – Live At The Bop Shop
Delmark, 2000. Used
A great reunion of the team of Kahil El'Zabar and David Murray – a duo who really seem to bring out the best in each other! Murray's got a deep, round tone on his tenor here – a focused, rhythmic approach that falls in line beautifully with El'Zabar's drums and percussion – ... CD

Absent Minded
Delmark, 2013. Used
The boldest set so far from Mikrokolektyw – and a record that really has the Polish duo coming into their own! As before, the record's got an electro-acoustic blend of trumpet, drums, and lots of electronics – used in ways that take us back to 70s experiments of this nature from the ... CD

Funky 70s work from Lalo – with a bit of a disco twist, and plenty of the electric jazz funk elements that were showing up in his soundtracks at the time. Lalo's on keyboards, playing a cool host of electric ones that give the record a nice spacey sound over the top of the funky arrangements. ... CD

Count Basie & Sarah Vaughan (with bonus tracks)
Roulette, 1960. Used
Sarah gets some backing from Count Basie – making for a record that's one of her jazziest and swinging of the time! As with other Basie-related vocal sessions from the early 60s, this one has a soulful edge and a nice little bounce – one that makes for a more solid approach that gets ... CD
