Byablue

LP (Item 542562) Impulse, 1976 — Condition: Near Mint-

There's a nicely warming vibe on this album from Keith Jarrett – a sound that's sometimes a bit more laidback and personal, but which is still carried off with familiar associates Dewey Redman on tenor, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums! Most of the tunes are shorter compositions built around gently lyrical lines – somewhat introspective, and a bit less organic than in years past – but in a way that more than makes up for that difference with their own inner beauty. Titles include "Konya", "Rainbow", "Trieste", "Fantasm", "Yahllah", and "Byablue".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some light stains on the bottom right corner.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

ECM, 1979. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A strong quartet date, with a bit more edge than some of his solo piano records – thanks to work by Jan Garbarek on soprano and tenor, Palle Danielsson on bass, and John Christensen on drums. Jarrett also plays a bit of percussion and timbales! LP, Vinyl record album

Still Live
ECM, 1986. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Wonderful trio work from Keith Jarrett – a format that the pianist returned to strongly in the 80s, after really breaking fresh ground as a solo artist in the 70s! The music here is hardly the trio styles of most of Jarrett's contemporaries, as there's lots of lessons learned from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fort Yawuh
Impulse, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Great Impulse work from Keith Jarrett – recorded at a time when he had a lot sharper edge than later years, and was really matching the spirit of some of the post-Coltrane generation players on the label! The date's a live one, and features some relatively extended tracks – tunes that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Standards Vol 2
ECM, 1983. Near Mint-
A second great set of standards from Keith Jarrett – and like the first one, a great reminder to many that the pianist was still very strongly schooled in jazz! Although Keith really opened up ways for pianists to stretch out in the 70s, his move to material like this in the early 80s was a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Somewhere Before
Vortex, 1968. Near Mint-
A wonderful illustration of the inherent sense of beauty in Keith Jarrett's early work – an approach to piano that was simple, straightforward, and marked by a ringing sense of tone that's evident in the very first note of the set! Impulse, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
Ultra-hip work from pianist Keith Jarrett – a session that's filled with joy and life, and which has a lot more energy than some of his albums for ECM! Columbia, 1972. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A totally wonderful album from the young Keith Jarrett – and a set that's different than most of the pianist's other well-known modes – not his solo improvisations, not his successful trio material, and not even his more outside quartet modes of the 70s – but instead this ... LP, Vinyl record album
