Set Me Free

LP (Item 542293) Atlantic, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

A collection of tracks that Esther recorded for Atlantic between the years 1964 and 1970, many of which continue the feeling of the Country Side album. Titles include "Hello Walls", "Double Crossing Blues", "I'm In Love", "Catch Me I'm Fallin", "All God Has Is Us", "Woman Will Do No Wrong", and "Crazy Love".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Confessin' The Blues
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
A 70s album, issued at a time when Esther Phillips was really riding high with her records on the Kudo label – but a set that brings together unissued sides recorded for Atlantic in the 60s! The style is a great mix of rootsy soul and hipper jazz – arranged by Onzy Matthews on side one ... LP, Vinyl record album

For All We Know
Kudu, 1975. Very Good+
Smooth and sophisticated grooving from Esther Phillips – a record that really has her shaking off the rag-tag and rootsy modes of earlier years, and gliding sweetly into the mainstream! Esther
Atlantic, 1966. Very Good
Given her start as a rough-hewn child junkie R&B singer, it's hard to believe that Esther's the one singing these beautiful ballads and soul tracks! Young, Gifted & Black
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good

Hilltak/Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+
A free soul classic from the Dalton & Dubarri team – smooth and sweet soul with a nice slick finish, and a real talent for coming up with a catchy hook! What can we say? We've heard this one a million times, it sold over a million copies – but it's still incredible!
