❔
(80s issue – still sealed – with hype sticker & sticker remnant. Shrink has an open spot at the lower corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Motown, 1983. Near Mint-
One of the strangest acts to come from Motown in the early 80s – and almost more of a new wave record than a soul one! The standout hit here is the title track "Somebody's Watching Me" – an odd electro tune that has Rockwell speaking/singing these paranoid lyrics with a vague ... LP, Vinyl record album

Live!
Motown, 1977. Very Good+ 2LP
A bit a hit for a live soul album as the 70s ever saw – and a great document of the versatility of the Commodores in the years when they still had their funky chops up strong enough! Commodores

Greatest Hits
Motown, 1978. Very Good+
A well-timed Greatest Hits set for The Commodores – because it came out in 1978, and captures the group at their best early prime! Impressions

This Is My Country
Curtom, 1968. Good
The Impressions are wearing their politics much more on their sleeve at this point – what with a cover that shows them standing in the rubble of the ghetto, and a title that is both a bold proclamation of ownership, and a sad comment on the state of affairs. Curtis Mayfield's pen is in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mandrill

Mandrill
Polydor, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold
A masterpiece of freeform funk from Mandrill – New York group at the start of the 70s, but one who work here with the best longform jamming styles of the Bay Area scene!
