We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Reprise, 1975. Very Good+
Strange & sublime reggae from Jimmy Cliff, cut during his mid 70s turn with Warner Brothers. A little more than half of the record was cut in Jamaica at Channel One and Tubby's, and features a cast of Jamaican greats like Sly & Robbie, Horsemouth, Ranchie and Prince Buster, but there's a ... Columbia, 1977. Very Good+
Peter Tosh's great, militant, second solo LP, one of the best of his career! Equal Rights is up to par with the finest Wailers LPs, although this is a bit heavier than the groovy, mellow Legalize It, the predecessor. A vital, hugely important, essential set of mid-to-late 70s reggae on Columbia. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Island, 1977. Very Good
One of our favorite Wailers LPs – as solid a statement as Marley had made, and to our ears, the finest moment of his later career. The album features classics like "Natural Mystic", "Three Little Birds", "One Love/People Get Ready" and the excellent, driving ... LP, Vinyl record album
Shanachie, 1981. Very Good
Righteous sounds from Rita Marley – a set that's one of her best-remembered albums, and done in a well-crafted style that definitely lives up to the Marley family name! Shanachie, 1977. Very Good-
While he's much better known for his lover's rock and the huge chart hits he scored with it, back in 1977 Gregory Isaacs cut this roots side, at Channel One, under Ossie Hibbert, and he does more than a respectable job with the material. The rhythms are provided by the Revolutionaries, providing a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Epic/Ice, 1978. Very Good
The purist reggae lover side of us wants to dismiss this is a largely commercial crossover record, but the electro loving side of us can't get enough of the title track, which was also covered to great effect by Rocker's Revenge. Much of the rest of the record hews closer to traditional reggae and ... LP, Vinyl record album

First US release by this Jamaican rocksteady duo, recorded in Jamaica with Byron Lee at the helm.
