Saucerful Of Secrets

LP (Item 541859) Tower, 1968 — Condition: Very Good
Originally: 49.99
Pink Floyd rose out of the same London scene that gave the world a huge amount of psychedelic records in the late 60s – but with a set like this, they're clearly head and shoulders above most of their contemporaries – already working with a boundless sense of imagination and impeccable instrumentation, on a record that's full of delight and surprise at every single twist and turn! The group still sport Syd Barrett vocals and lyrics here, but are also really opening up their guitar spaceship too – soaring to the heavens on the tremendous "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" – and sending the whole thing home with the cuts "Let There Be More Light", "Corporal Clegg", "Jugband Blues", "See Saw", and "A Saucerful Of Secrets".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original orange label US stereo pressing with "Gilmore" credit, A1/B2 matrix, and IAM stamp. Cover has half split top seam with a rounded corner, 4 inch split with a tiny tear at the bottom seam, and a wide piece of clear tape at the top of the spine.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Relics
Capitol/Harvest, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An early 70s collection of previous work from Pink Floyd – and a crucial display of the younger group's charm to folks who'd only discovered them in the longform jamming years! The set's got some great vocal gems from the Syd Barrett years, plus the kind of fantastic guitar work that the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A brilliant bit of psychedelia – still as fresh today as it was many decades back – and the crowning achievement of Pink Floyd during the early Syd Barrett years! The album's got all the best elements of the group firmly in place – the penchant for long-jamming tracks that still ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tower, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A totally groovy little album – and one that came along as kind of an offshoot to the weird and wonderful soundtrack for the film Wild In The Streets! Max Frost & The Troopers contributed some great numbers to the soundtrack of that gem – but they're even better here, with a tight, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hard and heavy guitar rock – kind of in the Thin Lizzy vein, and with a very tasty drummer! Our favorite cut on here is "Spider's Web", which has a great and unusual drum break at the beginning – one that goes on and on and on, with some good guitar fills that sound almost ... William Lyall

Solo Casting
EMI (UK), 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
The only solo album ever from William Lyall – an artist with ties to 70s UK pop giants Pilot and The Bay City Rollers – although don't hold that latter reference against him, as the music here is much like his work in Pilot! As with that group, the songs here are wonderfully sharp and ... LP, Vinyl record album
