80s grooving hard with Heatwave – still going strong on this album from 1982, taking that smooth funky style they helped forge in the 70s, and pushing it to a whole new level on this set. Over the years, the group continue to show a tremendous depth as a soul act, working here well on both ballads and more uptempo tunes – and never resorting to easy tricks or cliches, coming up with some fantastic grooves in the process! The album includes the excellent jazzy groover "The Big Guns", plus the tracks "Naturally", "Look After Love", "Mind What You Find", "Hold Onto The One", and "Lettin It Loose". (Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has ring & edge wear.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ray Draper was quite an interesting fellow – for a tuba player! Despite the heaviness of his instrument, the guy made some key early recordings with Coltrane and Jackie McLean during the late 50s, recorded some disco albums during the late 70s, and managed to cut this crossover batch of rock ... Atlantic, 1966. Sealed
Warm and tender, but pretty darn rootsy too – a beautiful illustration of the sound that made Percy Sledge one of the deepest soul singers to record for Atlantic in the 60s! Sledge has this raspy power that grabs us right from the start – that quality that made his music resonate ... LP, Vinyl record album

Janus, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Funky rockin' work by this singer that we know little about – kind of in the vein of Ruth Copeland, or some of the other Bad Soul Sister rockers from the early 70s. The record's got some nice breaks, including the long intro to "Little By Little", and the track "Get It ... LP, Vinyl record album
