Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Patricia Marx

Patricia Marx
Trama/Ether (UK), 2004. Used
Heavy Brazilian soul from Patricia Marx – her greatest album to date, and a solid stunner that gets us from the very first note! The album was mostly recorded in Brazil, but it's got a fluid funky groove that almost reminds us of our favorite work from the Atlanta scene in recent years ... CD

Azymuth

Partido Novo
Far Out (UK), 2002. Used
Warm, wonderful, and incredibly far-reaching in scope – possibly the most ambitious record cut by Azymuth in recent years – a perfect blend of jazzy fusion, Brazilian rhythms, and some of the London broken beat culture that the group have come into contact with through their label, Far ... CD

Sabrina Malheiros

New Morning (deluxe edition)
Far Out (UK), 2008. Used
A nicely changed-up version of this sweet Brazilian-tinged set! Sabrina Malheiros just keeps on getting better and better – and she really sparkles wonderfully here in a set of fully soulful backings! The album's put together by Daniel Maunick, aka Venom, and son of Bluey from Incognito ... CD

Casa Das Maquinas

Casa Das Maquinas
Som Livre (Brazil), 1974. Used
A lost Brazilian rock set from the mid 70s – one that's nicely perched between the psychedelic sounds of the indie scene and some of the more tightly fused modes of the MPB mainstream! The tunes here are all relatively tightly structured – but they're carried off with a relaxed ... CD
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1970. Used
An incredible early album by this legendary Brazilian band with a strong late 60s/early 70s progressive flair! While not as countercultural as Os Mutantes or other Tropicalia artists, Som Imaginario shared with them a sense of pure musical inventiveness, and a love of psychedelic flourishes – ... CD

Bebel Gilberto

Momento
Ziriguiboom/Six Degrees, 2007. Used
Bebel Gilberto's certainly one to keep her public waiting in the space between each new record – but she always makes the wait worthwhile by coming up with something new! The sound here is again something different than her previous two albums – somewhat electric, but also fairly ... CD

Banda Black Rio

Rebirth (aka Movimento)
Mr Bongo (UK), 2002. Used
New work from one of the greatest Brazilian soul groups of the 70s – and they're still pretty darn great! The album's smoother and perhaps a bit less funk-oriented than some of Banda Black Rio's classic work – but it's still a perfect blend of Brazilian rhythms and instrumentation with ... CD

Miles Davis All Stars

Walkin'
Prestige/OJC, 1954. Used
As classic an early album by Miles Davis as you can find – truly filled with the "all star" players billed in the title, and a session that has the sharpness of Davis' bop work for Blue Note, yet also lets him stretch out in a slightly more relaxed format! The album features Miles ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
An early pairing of Miles Davis & John Coltrane – one of the duo's mid 50s classics for Prestige, as you might guess from the verb in the title! And although "Steamin" might be a word that's a bit too firey to describe the action going on here, the album's got a tremendous ... CD
