Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Specialty/OJC, 1958. Used
Not the all-out chaos you might expect from the title, but a hell of a great 50s session from trombonist Frank Rosolino – produced by a young David Axelrod, and possibly one of Frank's greatest albums of the time! The group's got a bit more bite and a lot more soul than some of Rosolino's ... CD
Storyville, 1978. Used
Zoot Sims blows it nicely on this open-ended live set recorded in Copenhagen – a batch of tracks with the same sort of long, free space for solos as other dates done on that scene by American tenor stars! No surprise, Kenny Drew's backing Zoot up with some tremendous rhythm accompaniment ... CD

Zoot Sims is one of those players who always seems to open up more in a live date than a studio session – and this great little album is key testament to that fact! The set was recorded live at EJ's in Atlanta in the early 80s, but it's got a sense of imagination and fire that are totally ... CD

Brew Moore

No More Brew
Storyville (Denmark), 1971. Used
One of the last recordings we've ever seen from Brew Moore – a bit unfortunately titled, given that the work was issued upon his death – but a great set nonetheless! The album's got Brew playing in comfortable Scandinavian territory – recorded live in 1971 and the Stampen in ... CD

Freddie Hubbard

Red Clay (with bonus track)
CTI, 1970. Used
Amazing work from Freddie Hubbard – one of his best albums ever! The title cut's a classic, but all cuts on the album are great – and really set a whole new standard for soul jazz in the 70s! Unlike the freer runs of Miles Davis, Freddie takes things into territory here that's open, ... CD

Miles Davis

ESP
Columbia, 1965. Used
An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, ... CD
Blue Note, 1953/1954/1957. Used
A pretty great little set that combines both of the rare early Elmo Hope 10" LPs for Blue Note – plus some additional material! Introducing The Elmo Hope Trio is seminal early work from Hope – and one of the 10" LP releases that was part of Blue Note's "New Faces – ... CD

Booker Ervin

Book Cooks
Bethlehem, 1960. Used
One of the greatest albums on the Bethlehem label – and one of the first albums as a leader by the legendary Booker Ervin! At the time of the set, Ervin had come off a great stint with the Charles Mingus group – one that inflected his rootsy Texas tenor tones with a sharper modern edge ... CD
