Mountain Dance (Japanese pressing)

LP (Item 540777) JVC (Japan), 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
Originally: 13.99
One of Dave's funkier albums of the time – with cuts that include "Captain Caribe", "Rondo", "City Lights", "Rag Bag", and "Mountain Dance".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Japanese pressing, with obi! Cover has some aging, vinyl is great!)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Out Of The Shadows
GRP, 1982. Near Mint-
Dave Grusin's definitely out of the shadows here – after years of session work, soundtrack music, and other arrangements – finally beginning to shine in the limelight as a jazz musician on his own! Night-Lines
GRP, 1984. Very Good+
A record that has Dave Grusin elevating a bit more into the jazz/soul mainstream – as the set has the keyboardist working with a few more crossover modes than before, but all in a way that seems to demonstrate his many years in various kinds of music! Discovered Again!
Sheffield Lab, 1976. Near Mint-
To tell the truth, we didn't know he'd ever been lost – but who cares anyway, as the album captures Dave in his best 70s fusion mode! The album's got some great mellow tunes that bubble along with a sweet electric feel – gliding in that Grusin way that was never that funky, but which ... LP, Vinyl record album

JVC (Japan), 1979. Near Mint- Gatefold
Smooth jazzy fusion from Lee Ritenour – a classic set that was originally only released in Japan, part of the underground Japanese Fusion movement of the late 70s, famous for groove hounds for that added level of soul that often wasn't showing up in American releases at the time! The album ... LP, Vinyl record album
JVC (Japan), 1982/1983. Near Mint-
LP...$6.99 11.99
On The Line has a style that's a bit keyboard-heavy – in a way that seems to borrow from some of the 80s soundtrack work of the time, and which is clearly a nod to the success of the Lyle Mays/Pat Metheny sound that was breaking big on ECM. The move is a nice one for Lee on the best cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album

Boss Is Back!
Prestige, 1969. Very Good
A great comeback for tenor legend Gene Ammons – not just in a musical sense, but also because Jug had spent most of the past few years in prison – as part of the usual trumped-up drug charges that were filed against musicians at the time! At the time of this album, Ammons had not ... LP, Vinyl record album
