Gloria Lynne Calender

LP (Item 54064) Hi Fi/Everest, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+

There's a pretty loose theme to this one – because although the album's supposed to have a "calender" concept, one in which Gloria runs through tunes for every month of the year, the adherence to this mode is a bit loose, and the choice of songs hardly reflects the months. Still, the album's not a bad one overall – very much in the pop jazz vocal mode of Gloria's other work of the 60s. Titles include "Out Of This World", "Bali Hai", "Tis Autumn", "Sweet Pumpkin", "On Christmas Day", "Let's Fall In Love", and "Whispering Grass".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing on Life. Cover has a cutout hole.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Time Of Desire
Hi Fi, Late 50s. Very Good
A great early record from Rod McKuen – maybe more of a beat poetry record than some of his later work – with jazzy backings by Paul Gray, and a group that features Tiny Timbrell on guitar and Phil Sobel on flute! LP, Vinyl record album

Lambert, Hendricks & Ross Sing Ellington
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good+
Although Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross started out their career singing vocalese versions of Basie tunes, they do a pretty darn great job here with Ellington – in fact, maybe even better, given the sophistication of the tracks. And while the album lacks some of the whimsy of the wonderful ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nice & Easy
Capitol, 1960. Very Good+
Frank's last solid album for Capitol, and an easily swinging set that points the way towards the confident maturity of the Reprise years. Nancy – Naturally
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good
A great one from Nancy Wilson – a set that has the singer working with full arrangements from Billy May, who's got this surprisingly subtle approach at times that works really well with the soulful currents in Nancy's vocals!
