Our Man In Africa

LP (Item 54061) FM, 1963 — Condition: Very Good

Folksy soul from George Anderson – an African singer by birth, recording here in a Paris studio, and singing in a mode that's a bit like some of Miriam Makeba's recordings from the time. George is on lead vocals and acoustic guitar – and most tracks have rather spare backings, with only a bit of percussion behind George. Titles include "Misia Na Misia", "Ngosso", "Yeyo Mebolo", and "Ewolo Mese".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout hole, some edge wear, and small stickers.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wonderfully fuzzy work from Amanaz – one of the trippiest, headiest groups of the Zamrock scene of the 70s! Middle Eastern Rock
Verve, 1969. Very Good
Don't think "rock", think "groove" – because oud player John Berberian takes his instrument into some very groovy territory here – mixing its Mid-East roots with a sweet array of modal rhythms and psychedelic elements – all of which make for an album that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Obscure pop/soul release recorded for Audio Fidelity, with arrangements by Coleridge Perkinson. Babs runs through a set of mostly pop stuff, like "Windows of the World" and "Didn't We", but there's also some originals like "I Can Tell" and "Something Happy". LP, Vinyl record album

A major winner from The Impressions! Virtually all of their material for ABC was excellent – and this LP is no exception, as it's got loads of original Curtis Mayfield compositions, and plenty of great arrangements by Chicago soul legend Johnny Pate.
