Like A Virgin

LP (Item 540245) Sire, 1984 — Condition: Near Mint-
$7.99 ...

LP, Vinyl record album

(€6.71 || £5.96 || ¥888) (approx.)

(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lorraine Ellison
Warner, 1974. Very Good+
This great soul diva gets sort of a LA studio treatment with cool arrangements by Nick DeCaro and production by Ted Templeman. The sound has sort of that "spiritual soul for whiteys" feel, but it's still pretty great, and Lorraine Ellison has a voice that's good enough to cut through ... LP, Vinyl record album
And I Love Him
Atlantic, 1966. Very Good
The classic Atlantic LP that turned Esther from a rough-hewn, junkie, juvenile R&B singer into a sensitive interpreter of ballads, standards, and pop tracks. Her version of the Beatles title track is amazing, and she sings it with a fragility and sensitivity that Lennon and McCartney could ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stax, 1969. Near Mint-
Later work from Booker T and crew – an album that always gets lost in the shuffle, but which also includes lots of great moments, and a bit more funk than in earlier years! Oogum Boogum
Double Shot, Late 60s. Very Good-
A classic by Brenton Wood – one that crossed over big, and which was a real bright spot on the indie soul scene of the late 60s! Brenton's sound is kind of a swinging LA one – a bit pop in parts, but all-soul on the vocals, which are a bit sweet, but with a raspy edge that's always ... LP, Vinyl record album
Joy & Pain
Capitol, 1980. Very Good
Classic modern soul from the legendary Frankie Beverly! The record's perhaps one of their best remembered – most likely for the killer cut "Joy & Pain", which has a great hook that's been sampled many times over the years. The record also features the wonderful "Southern ... LP, Vinyl record album

Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Vivian Reed was an obscure soul singer who cut a few equally obscure albums for Epic, of which this is the first. Fantastic
Revue, Late 60s. Very Good
The title says "blues", but there's lots of nice funky material on here, and a number of tracks with a good hard groove. Harold Jones handles the vocals, and he's backed up by a group of whiteys who seem to have a bluesy rock background. Cuts include "Come On And Get It", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Keem-O-Sabe
United Artists, Late 60s. Very Good+
A goofy mix of groovy instrumental tracks with a weird "Apache"-esque instrumentation made up of some nicely processed guitars.
